That makes a lot of sense. After thinking about it more, I probably started to answer my own question as well... I'm guessing that while G10 itself isn't terribly expensive, it comes in blocks that have to be cut, sanded, drilled, etc... (i.e. labor intensive), whereas the FRN is probably injection molded or something so that the scales can be turned out in quantity more or less ready to go, with much less overall expense involved.
