Doing a project in Jacksonville, FL.

I hired a couple of day laborers to take care of the "grunt work". One noticed my CRK, and decided to strike up conversation about knives claiming his grandfather was into collecting them and has been for "33 years". Me being who Iam, I'm very skeptical of anyone I don't know/ care much for, but I decided to listen to this mans story as he was a "talker". He eventually told me that his grandfather had an "appraiser" come to place a value on his collection which mind you..claimed it took "3 weeks" to go through. When it was all said and done his grandfathers collection was worth a whopping $758,000!! It was by this time I knew I made a mistake to even give him the intial 45 seconds of my time at the beginning of the day when he struck up a convo about knives.

If you made it this far and actually read my ridiculous encounter with such a phony individual I'd love to hear if this has happened to you guys. I feel as if some people exist on this world to see what they can get people to believe or maybe they are just trying to impress everyone they meet? Who knows ..

You never know ... This could be true .
Or he was mistaken and it's valued at 758.00.

He's a day laborer and his grandfather has $758,000 just in knives! Grandpa better watch out,

It's possible. A lot of guys that age collect Randalls and ABS master smith bowies and the type. I doubt that appraisal, but who knows.

Umm, I wouldn't go and call BS on this guy just because the prices were high. If you think that is hard to believe I have a fragrance collection worth about $4000. And that is just smelly liquid in a bottle.

I can't say I ever had someone do something like that to me. However there is this one guy I knew a few years back that every word that came out of his mouth was bullshit. Everyone knew him as a bullshitter and I swear he couldn't help himself. "Yeah I took down a 16 point buck yesterday with a spear" or "I used to own a brand new Porche but I had to trade it for my 15 year old pick up truck". Stuff like that, haha. Funny and pretty sad all at the same time.

Now stuff like that is usually easy to spot. But in this case the guy spotted a CRK in someones pocket and seemed to have a pretty detailed story related to knives even when reading the cliffs notes version. I would have had to actually hear the conversation to know for sure if he was lying. I have had people try to impress me with knife stories because they find out I'm into them. 9 times out of 10 they were ridiculous. But occasionally I will run into someone who actually knows what I am carrying and can actually have a semi intellectual conversation about knives. But I wouldn't say that just because the guy is a laborer that his uncle couldn't have $750,000 in knives. I mean I drive a Toyota 4 runner. My brother drives any of his 7 cars one of them being a Ferrari. I'm not saying anything negative about my brothers good fortune. He works hard. I only mention it because people can be related and have very different financial situations.

Are there such things as knife appraisers? I'm sure certain auction houses could value antiques and so forth, but beyond that?

Maybe grandpa had a couple Masamunes?;)

I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and am happy to run into somebody who wants to talk about knives.

The exact numbers in his story are what most scream BS to me. 33 years collecting and $758K. And of course $758K is a very large number.
These exact figures aren't even his...their his grandfather's. Load of crap.
