Congrats, Henry! My first Opinel was a carbone #6 and I love it (especially after I learned how to deal with the swelling problems). I also have a carbon #7 that I like at least as much as the no. 6, and I've often thought that my next Opinel will be a #8, and the garden knife is sure appealing. I'll be looking for a "review" from you for your new no. 8. (Believe it or not, I have a student whose surname is Carbone.Right now I have three Opinels coming: no. 6 in stainless for my grandson, plus one in carbon for me, and a No.8 garden knife.
Congrats, Cody! Did each of those tubes contain a knife? I don't know enough about GEC to tell what you actually got without seeing the "lids" of the tubes.
Dan, I think you're going to really enjoy the half hawk if it's anything like mine! Mine is smooth tobacco bone, but otherwise identical to your Coal Miner, I'd guess, and mine is a way more than satisfying knife. Photo follows:I picked up a Rough Rider Muskrat in purple smooth bone for the girlfriend about 4 years ago and I was surprised by the fit and finish. Just ordered a Half Hawk in black jigged bone in their ''Coal Miner series'' It looks like a very sturdy little beater. Anyone have one of these RR Half Hawks?
Fantastic knife, Peter; that's a quintessential stockman! (I quit smoking cigars after 45 years a year ago last Christmas, but yours still looks kind of good to me, especially with the beautiful weather my area has had the past two days.Alan....you will LOVE that knife! Congrats on a fine choice! Mine is a mainstay in my rotation.
