Whatcha got on order? (Traditional Knives Only)

Unusual for me as my purchases are normally further spaced out, but I have two knives currently on order. A 12 cm Laguiole in juniper and a 9 cm Sauveterre in amourette.

Hi all

I'm new here. Names John, from the UK and I'm a newish collector and restorer of traditional folders.
I recently purchased a couple of Richards of Sheffield knives for restoration. There was a good deal on Etsy and couldn't help myself.

I've got a scout knife, the single blade with marlin spike, that is a civvy version of the Jack/Clasp knife issued to British soldiers.

I've also got a single clip blade knife that slightly exceeds the legal permissable length for a uk carry.
Both are missing the outer shells/scales...so my plan is to uprev both with a bit of nice wood and maybe brass bolsters...
I would love to share a picture but I think I have some setting up to do before I can post any.
I'm looking forward to getting my feet under the table of Blade Forums and sharing some of my projects with you all.

Oh btw, these two new additions are due to land any time soon

I would like to upload some images but I have to join imgur or something...not ideal when I'm using my smartphone and all of my images are on it lol
Is there an easier way of uploading images?

As a collector of Victorinox SAKs in general—and Alox in particular—the “closest…to something they don’t make anymore” aroused my curiosity. I narrowed it down to two guesses. How’d I do?

Those are both great. Is the eyed needle for sailcloth or animals? (Or something else?)
I think the one I was looking for had one blade less than the one that I bought, and I think it was an extinct variety of Farmer.

Inches? Really?

Are you going to drill the possible brass bolsters for new pins? I've usually just glued wood over such knives.

A paying member can upload picture files directly. I never read the rules to see if there's a limit to how many.
Welcome aboard.

Hi screened porch and thank you for the welcome and the info.
I have the intention of pinning the scales to the liners and soldering some brass bolsters, on to both.
I'm thinking hickory for the scout and possibly some acacia for the clip...but this may have to start being posted to another thread...I don't want the mods thinking I'm spamming or going off topic ;)

Been a while. Broke down and ordered a couple of the new Case Small Swell Center Jacks - Yellow Synthetic and Patriot Kirinite.

edit to add - Should be interesting. Based on measurements, larger than a peanut (good for me), slightly smaller than a medium Jack (maybe not good for me). Will have to see when they arrive.

Well, seems that Royal Fail have misplaced my delivery... absolutely gutted... I have to wait until the 19th April until they consider it actually "lost"...ffs!

...So I bought a Rough Rider Custom CS2 Trapper to bugger around with lol
That'll be here tomorrow :D (not via Royal Mail!)

I'm going to practice some filework on this DIY trapper, see if I can tart it up... while honing (or rather gaining) some file experience.
It's cheap enough to make into a daily "beater" if I really mess it up xD

Hammer67 Hammer67 I'm tempted to have a go at copying that style of jigging, maybe even on this diy trapper...I've never seen that before, maybe I've been ignorant...is it a Boker thing?

Sorry H highwayman - just seeing this. I have seen that style of jigging elsewhere on older knives, although not on any new releases that I can recall lately. I look forward to seeing to seeing your work - please post some pics!

No worries Smithhammer - I've actually started on it and I have a few images too but I'm sooo reluctant to open an imgur account...

That's another beauty! I really like the unusual blade combo. I restored/customized a Sheffield made knife for the lamb/sheep foot blade (customized). It's a great hardy and useful blade shape... I love how your knife has a clip too! Very jealous!

Ps I've gone for wood for this diy trapper instead of bone/horn, the wheat jigging will have to be for a future project. ;)
