Whatcha got on order ?

My pocket magnifier arrived today and I wanted to do a short review about it.

An unexpected feature is that the light comes on just past the “half stop” position allowing it to be used with or without the light. A nice battery saving feature.

There is no detent to hold it closed but in its new condition there is enough friction in the pivot to hold it closed. Not sure how long that friction will last but it’s good right now.

My pictures don’t show the magnification very well. I took them before I realized that I was holding the lens too close to the subject. Moving the lens farther up increases the magnification plenty large enough that I can read tiny print without my glasses on which was the whole point of buying it.
Is the lens made of glass or plastic? I've carried a cheapie 3 folding lens in my carry kit for years (bad eyesight), but the lens is plastic and over time enough grit has penetrated the case to scratch it. Still works, but not as well. I have a couple of folding lens magnifiers with glass lenses that I keep around the house. Been thinking of putting one of those in my carry kit instead.

The lens on this model is advertised as “Acrylic”. If I Iike it enough after a month or so, I might buy a couple more because scratching the lens beyond being able to use it is probably inevitable.

One of my reasons for choosing this model is that the flat, rigid body will accommodate an adhesive pocket clip if I ever decide to go that route.

I ordered a Sninner guide series front sight for my Savage mk2.
I thought I was going to have to make a front sight for the rifle because nobody seemed to make a tall enough dovetail front sight.
Most seem to expect that if you want something taller have a gunsmith fit a sight ramp to mount it too.
Thankfully I stumbled on Skinner who has their guide series direct mount sights that go up to .700, so I ordered a .650 in blued steel.
I knew them from their brass peep sights, but never explored their front sight offerings.

I was curious about these little " finger buckle monocular " , they're all marked made in Russia and have a logo on them but being that they can be found from China I am pretty skeptical about their COO.
they were only $15 for a pair of them so I decided to try them out.

Basically I wanted something small that is the bare minimum necessary to see the light .177 holes when I'm doing some indoor paper punching with my airguns instead of having to get up and look between groupings.
I have multiple pairs of binoculars, but they're overkill for this.

Somehow I lost my fenix Hm50R headlamp since I last used it at work and it's nowhere to be found so I went on their website and wound up ordering an HM61R to replace it instead of another HM50R because I liked the fact that medium mode is 20 lumens brighter.
It also has more runtime, not that it's ever really been much of a problem.
130 / 8hr vs 150/12hr may prove very beneficial.

Nothing too exciting for most people. Just ordered all the parts for a new pc build before windows 10 sunsets and the prices get too much higher. Solid mid tier system since I don't game much at all and needed more of a workhorse.

Once I recover from that... fly fishing reels and some other gear I need to update or replace.

I built the tower. All went smoothly. If anyone wants the build sheet let me know.

Now, I am looking at monitors while I am in recovery from the tower build. I have my eye on some, just figuring out the final choices.

The reels are going to be much more than a monitor, probably close to $500 each loaded with line and out the door from a local small business.

Don't you hate it when work eats your gear? I work nights and live by flashlight half the time. Unfortunately head lamps don't really gel with my work. But I have thought about them for not work stuff. What do you like about the Fenix ones over others?

so far I haven't used any other good quality headlamps, everything I had before was junk.
I don't know what everybody else has to offer, but the Fenix was recommended to me so I bought one and I really liked it.
When it disappeared I knew I wanted another angle head flashlight style of headlamp, and the other main option I found was the Olight perun series.
The Olight options are a bit cheaper and offer more max lumens, but the overall specs and operation were hard to find on their shitshow black Friday sale of a website so I gave up.
Ultimately I just went back to fenix because of the things I knew I liked about my 1st one.

I like the user interface.
You click and hold for a second to turn it on to your last used mode then click to cycle through if needed.
Red modes you can completely ignore unless intentionally activated.
A useful range of outputs
Good runtime
A useful battery indicator
And I really like how it uses the pocket clip to clip into the headband mount because it's secure without taking much effort.
The fenix HM series was clearly designed for both outdoors and work environment, they enough output levels and relatively simple straightforward operation without much nonsense.

if you want a dedicated headlamp type, there are going to be a lot more options out there.

Thanks for sharing all of that Hickory n steel Hickory n steel . I would likely use something like that for tinkering on my truck or outdoors stuff. Just not for work. I use a Fenix light already and have been happy with it. I have been considering getting another one so I have a dedicated work light and a separate one for home and carry use. I have a Streamlight Micro USB light for work and pocket carry as well and have been happy with that. The clip on the Microstream will fit on a baseball hat if I need that as well, but a dedicated headlamp with more power could be useful.
