Nice stuff everyone :)

Adam, your knives look quite good. It looks like you put care into them.

Will, I attempted a handle like that on your top knife a couple knives ago and failed, I think I'm going to reattempt it on the slim hunter I posted.

I've been trying to to step up my game a little on my grinds. I'm getting a tiny bit better with each one. I also love fine hand sanded finishes, but I just can't seem to stop doing the "as ground" ones.

After getting my grinder up and running I've been working on this batch. Half of these will go as Christmas presents. This is only my second batch of knives so I'm excited to see how they turn out. Having a real grinder makes a world of difference!

Man, this has become one of my favorite threads... You guys keep kicking it up... Thanks! :D

Ian--- Your grinds look better than MANY makers that have been grinding knives for YEARS. Very consistent and clean! I am loving that wood... I meant to get some from Mark but dicked around too long. Just sitting there in a static photo, I can tell it's got that "hologram" look to it. That will be a very fine knife.

Will- Dude... you're kick'n ass buddy! I love the stuff you've been making. Elegant, super clean, fast, and mean... just like a Ferrari.

Adam- Those look great! All 3 are very solid designs and look very well made. :)

Joe- Very cool project... that acid etch is way cool.

Erik- I saw some photos of that project--- Love the knife!

Thanks for keeping this thread alive fellas! :)

Last night when I came home I found one of my packages from www.hightemptools.com on my front porch. The regulator, pressure gage, hose, stainless burner flare and ITC-100 I ordered had arrived. :D

Tonight I found my other package on the front porch. Twenty pounds of Satanite, also from www.hightemptools.com had arrived.:D

Now i can finish the Zoeller style simple gas forge thats been sitting around for ages. I don't hafta do heat treating with a fish cooker and hard fire bricks any more!!!

Its a great feeling, seeing those packages, isn't it? I'm sure the UPS guy was hating his route today when he delivered my 2nd granite plate (3x12x18), a 50'x20" roll of 309 tool wrap and a few other small tools. :D

Excellent, dont forget pics.

Pics? Well,,,,,OK but they're cheap cell phone pics with the living room floor for a backdrop. Hey, c'mon, it's dark outside and I'm 30 miles from the shop.

I'm not impressed with the packaging but they got here.

Here's the forge. Nuttin' fancy but I hope it'll get the job done on a budget.

Here you can see the port I put in the back for a ceramic temperature probe. This should place the temperature probe in the center of the muffle pipe.

carbonsteel928: Yep, it feels great. I feel like I'm movin' up a little bit!

Ha nice. Thats almost exactly how I am setting mine up, I mean its already in use but I had a hole in the back to slide longer blades thru and then realized that was the perfect spot for my temp probe (same as yours). Now I am gonna make a plug to install and route it thru there. Think its the best setup for a forge like this like what you said it slides right into the muffle pipe.

This silky oak from Mark at Burl Source is just out of control... I just finished this one. I think it's my best work yet. I really put in some time on it.

Very Nice Ian! What is the black spacer? The white looks like G10.

I would just about give up a limb for a surface grinder. Definitely pretty high up on the list.

Right now I'm flattening as best I can on my hot-rodded 6x48 (beefed up the tensioner a bit so the belt lays flatter), and then doing a lot of hand sanding with used belt pieces glued to flattened scraps of stabilized wood.

I also do some work on a glass plate with AO lapping film just to see how I'm doing.

Oh, I forgot to mention, this is the first one of my knives I've cut myself with. Is there some knifemaker's superstition that covers that?

One of the things that has kept me going most is the joy of successfully making small improvements in each knife. It's getting harder now, but I still feel like I learn something new on each one.

Edit: I just finished airbrushing three coats of "Tactical Black" Duracoat on the dagger I'm finishing up. Looks pretty promising.

That turned out really nice Ian.

Here's the current mess--- I've made some progress on the 52100 fighting bowie, the other big one is Chop-a-lottonator (brother to Chop-a-lottagus ;)) forged from 6150, another concealed combat bowie prototype, and the one with the taped up blade is the same as the prototype- but done up "Gentleman style" with hand-rubbed finish and stabilized Masur Birch (from Alpha Knife Supply) handle. There's a little Koa/G10 handled parer in there too.

Nick, those are beyond incredible! This thread is rocking... nice work everyone!

I just sprayed these down with oil and came in... they are 95% done!

Pocket Fighters in 2 sizes... Backpackers, a Petty, Stinger and more. I'm using CPM 3V and 52100 steel.

Hi Nick, Is your Chop-a-lottonator hollow ground? The reflection in the picture resembles a hollow grind. A large one at that.

That turned out really nice Ian.

Here is a crummy pic of the W pattern I was working on early in the thread. I cut a piece off for another little project I'm working on. Excuse the bad pics. They are just rough ground and dirty etched in the pics. Still a few more stacks to go.
