File guides for local knifemakers, they are almost finished, I just need to silver weld the carbide

hey pablo those look super nice im actually in the research stages of building my own and i was wondering if you could answer a couple questions for me
first of which being what is the actual diameter of your pins and the the hole? I was reading you want a difference of around .005 to get a precision but still movable fit. but i don't want to buy a reamer and pin stick till im sure

and second do you thread one of the bolt holes?

If you make them super snug it will get stuck frequently, I used metric, the pin was 8mm (about 5/16") and the hole was the next drill, in my case 8.25mm since the difference is in the diameter, total deviation should be around 0.1mm (0.004"), Im pretty sure you cannot see the difference if it happen to be there...

Yes, you thread the bottom hole and leave the top hole so the screw can pass freely

Thanks Frank, they are a little uglier now that I started silver welding the carbide :D just in case I welded the pins too.
BTW the pins were knurled on a lathe and then hammered in place so they don't wobble.

Almost finished up with a few for this week. :D

wow....those are nice handles. To me, handles are always the biggest challenge (not like I've really done that many). I'd love to see a WIP of how you do these. Very nicely done. Not blocky at all...very fluid.

thanks pablo that makes things a little easier than going off of what i could find googleing

First filet knife, and first knife with a plunge in a few months. Pretty happy with it, except I made a scratch in the ricasso when it was 99.9% finished, while rounding the edge of the finger choil. Had to touch-up sand it out, and I'm pretty sure it's impossible to get those spots to blend in. Has to catch the light just right to show, but it's such a bummer when you were almost home and even a little flaw happens. Also, I really need a camera, or at least a new iPhone.

Very clean. Love it! What do you use as your liner between the burl and micarta? Is that just black micarta?

Thanks! It's black G10. It also has black and yellow G10 liners. Here's a photo before the knife was finished but you get the idea...

Probably all for me this week, other job taking up most of my time :grumpy: Oh well, thankful I'm able to do both :D

Just finished up this Titanium frame lock. I'm happy with the way it turned out. I'm no pro like so many of the folding knife makers on these forums but I feel like I've made real improvement. This is my first time making a milled pocket clip. I'm not sure I like it.

I still need to learn how to take decent photos. One step at a time :)

Just working on SPhinx from M390 4,3mm :)
With Desert G10 scales.

Tommorow I need to sandblast whole thing, and make Stonewash on steel.
And of course ABS 2mm black sheath ;)
