I'm taking a "stab" at a Japanese style knife. The steel was forged from W1 drill rod. I managed a decent hamon on it I do believe.
This one will be a kotanto, traditional take-down style, with Santos rosewood tsuka and saya.
The habaki was a real challenge in and of itself. I'm not sure how it's normally done, but I started with a piece of copper pipe and squished it flat. I then cut it down the middle and made two pieces. I hammered the pieces flat then bent the ends of each. Once I fit up the copper pieces I soldered them together, cleaned them up, then pressure fit them on.
This is the last of my antique ivory micarta and thought it would be a nice contrast to the carbon fiber bolster. I installed the stainless pins and then finished up sanding to 1000 grit and flitz
5" kitchen utility, .070" CPM154 at 61 RC, ivory paper micarta. First time working with paper micarta and I love it. Way easier than canvas. The ivory was a little of a pain to keep clean. This is super comfortable in your hand and gets a little more grip when wet.
Trying.....notice I said TRYING.....to finish up 25 or so heat treated blades of various sizes and shapes that have been sitting around for WAY too long. Smeagol HATEZ hand sanding The Precious!!!!!
