Some leather work I finished yesterday. It's not my favorite part of the craft, but I'm still working on my skills.

Lookin' good Shane! I am starting to get into sheath making. It's hard to be motivated because I have a fella make mine for $12 and a simple one takes me 3-4 hours. Heck, aside from heat treat, I can finish some knives faster than a $12 sheath!

Looks great as always Josh. Mind sharing a little on your methods for how you assemble handles? Do you pre assemble your scales or do you assemble everything at once as you epoxy to the knife? What glues and/or epoxies do you find work best for this type of construction?

Thank you!
Chris

Hey Chris,
When doing scales such as this I pre assemble the entire scale for each side and then assemble it as you would any other set. For putting the pieces together I use CA glue and then attach the actual scales to the blade with epoxy. I love doing multi piece handles but they are much more time consuming than a homogenous material handle and carry a far greater risk for gaps and misalignments. Thanks for the kind words bro!
Blessings,
Joshua

You had inspired me to give this handle set up a try and it worked great but this was my thoughts:"Yeah there awsome but a little bit(Okay,"a lot bit;) " tricky!"(false grammar on purpose)

You do very nice work!

$12 a sheath is a steal! It usually takes me a couple of hours to complete a sheath, with plenty of down time for glue drying, and dyes.

Thank you Josh! Pretty well as I presumed.

Just finished this one for a guy. Handle is Axis antler that I picked up on my buddy's ranch in TX. I found Axis much easier to work with that whitetail. Similar to elk antler.

Lots of nice work guys. This is the latest out of my shop. A bird and trout in O1 with spalted maple burl and stainless hardware.

Thanks Daniel and Matt for the comments. Matt, the overall length is ~8".

This is a blade I made a while back and wound up scratching it right up next to the front of the handle on the ricasso. It was too close to be able to fix. I had already removed these scales once after grinding through head of one of the corby bolts. Anyway, I wasn't taking them back off again so I decided to try bead blasting it. It was completely assembled and finished. I bead blasted the whole thing and then threw it in my vibratory tumbler. I think it came out very well and I like the finish. By the way It's 440c.

I re watched the Wheeler handle shaping videos for the Joe Bowies. I did this handle just today and Whoa Nelly! It feels awesome! Just used the slack belt and my 3/4" small wheel horizontally and then hand sanded and buffed. It feels amazing. I'ts so good I don't want to give it away but I promised it to someone for LAST Christmas so I guess I have to :)

I have another of the exact blade so I am going to do one for myself though.

Anyway, taking the time to go through those videos helped me a lot.

- edit - that front pin is not low, looks weird with my finger there or the camera angle or something.
