Holy smokes. Who makes it if I can ask? Love it.
You'll have to let us know how it works out for urasuki grinding. If I missed that already my apologies. I need to read more.

I made everything, wooden mold, sent to the foundry, turn to size, sent to rubberize, made the axis, made new arm for my homemade grinder, times 3. I kept one, already sold one and one is reserved.

Here is a photo of the early stages of the mold halves

Did I read that right? Thats all made from one bar of damascus?! I am curious how the balance is and cant wait to see that all etched up!

Just finished #11. It is the first one for "public consumption" as I'm donating it to be raffled off during a craft fair at my church to raise funds or an orphanage we operate. I am not thrilled with the actual application of the marks, but I do like my new logo and script line. I have ordered a proper etcher and etchant, so hopefully that will not be a problem in the future. This is the finest finish I have acheived on a blade to date. I actually hand sanded to 600, then decided the tip was not thin enough. I reground and went up to a 45 trizact. I think it is about the same result. Comments and critiques appreciated.

Yep, one solid bar, the bulk of the weight is in the hand and has a nice balance and the extra weight of it being all steel isn't noticed to much. I can't wait either but it's going to have to wait until my next days off.

Well big Ben G. did it again... Told him to give me a random draw on scales and he sent me a lovely set of Bocote that fit very well with my latest Clip point design. All I know is I'm going to do a number on his inventory if this keeps up.

Third knife I ever made. 3 in a series of 6 that I made from a bar of 1084 from Aldo. 4" handle, 3" blade. Ironwood from my brother in Guam that fell down 4yrs ago in a typhoon. Knife is going back to him. I didn't wait long enough for the island humidity to leave the wood and they warped on me a bit, so you might see some small gaps near the handle/tang. I ground the coke bottle end a bit too narrow and ground down one of the Corby bolts in the process. (Education). 600grit satin finish.

Looks nice faralon! Here's knife number three for me. Finished up last night. Paring knife to gift to my mother in law. Working on another knife to go with it. .074 o1. I didn't realize how difficult a small blade could be. Made some mistakes but overall it turned out well.

If you don't intend to redo the scales, I would suggest at least mixing some black dye in epoxy and filling those gaps. Otherwise it is sure to rust, especially in Guam. Tape off the blade first so you don't get epoxy on the ricasso area.

working on two new ones,
one is a hog hunter knife, my longest knife so far.

I built a sander based on plans from USA Knifemaker. I already had a 5 horsepower 220volt 3450 rpm motor sitting the shelf so I used that to power it. The step pulleys will do 1:1/2, 1:1, 1:2. So with a 4" drive wheel running at near 7000 rpm the belt is really moving. I took inspiration for the speed from an Entrek video where he grinds at a little over 7000 sfpm. Mine will do over 7000 sfpm and I am glad I built it that way. It took me a few months of working with it to be able to grind at those speeds but now I love it. Of course with the 5 horsepower motor there is absolutely no lack of power at any speed I choose to run it. Typically I will use the high speed for doing the bevel pre heat treat. After heat treat I slow down to clean things up. Recently I have been using 3M Gold Ceramic belts for bevel grinds and am really pleased with them. I flat ground 19 blanks with the edge up on one 3M Gold Ceramic in 50 Grit. Since then I have changed my flat grind method so that I grind them edge down. I have not ground enough yet this way to wear out a belt so I will see if the yield it higher. The reason I went edge down is because I have a 3M Gold Ceramic in 36 grit that has more than 30 knives hollow ground on it edge down and it is still going.

Next one up, a 180mm petty in cpm20CV, both bevels ground with a 36" radius platen. Difficult shape to hand finish not to mention its 20CV.....ahhhrg.

Is that a unicorn AND a mermaid? That IS awesome. :)

So how do you like the radius platen? I have one and haven't put it to metal yet. Is it pronounced enough to deliver a nice urasuki?

Dug this old steel table out of the brush. Got it moved into the shop today.

Need to get some better pictures but this is my fourth knife. Really made myself slow down and pay attention on this one. Pretty pleased with it.
