I have been getting a head of my self an end up doing to mucheck post forge work. So now its back to basic, banging out some blades to 80% complete to better my hammer skills.

A smal hunter, two pairing knives and a smal sailors spike.

Peepen108 is that the daughters first hammer? Lol never to young to get them started.

Kids these days...ha! Very nice work young fella!

Stark, I hope you're in school for something related to continue your knife making business. It's so refreshing seeing a guy your age with so much skill.

Haha thanks! Couldn't have done it without the forums and youtube.

Stark I love your handle work bud! And the damascus is beautiful!

I appreciate it! Handles are always my favorite part. They really make a custom knife separated from production ones.

I'm thinking about marketing or something along those lines. Thanks!

Just finished up this paring knife in AEB-L with white corian, black linen micarta, g10 and brass accents.

Also added a 9" disc grinder to the shop this week. It's wired to the VFD I use on the 2x72. I added a forward and reverse switch too. I really like it so far. I think it's going to really cut back on my hand sanding time

Hi Josh,
Absolutely love your clean grinds. Would you mind sharing some tips?

So, it sounds like you prep all the flats first. If so, what is your belt progression? And belt types?

When you grind in your bevels, what is the belt progression there? Along with types?

Since the grinds are so clean, i'm guessing you use the belts like they are free, and throw them away after very little use.

Would you care to comment on how much you use a belt? As belts get wore out, do you use them for other tasks or move them around in your belt progression?

What do you use for belt progression for finishing handles?

Sorry for all the questions, but your knives are just sooooo clean.
Thanks!

Thanks brotha! :D

Nope no scotchbrite, I run cork belts. Once the flats are prepped I just grind in the bevels, no need to clean up. Appreciate the kind words! :)

Lo/Rez,
Killer grinds bro!

Finished these up plus one more today. Happy with them.

I sent this one out a couple weeks ago. 1/4" W2, clayless hamon, full distal taper. Mild steel guard, curly Claro walnut handle. 8.5" blade.

This just came back from Peters, an 18" X 1/4" X 2" 5160 chopper. I'm working on this run (I do two at a time, that's a "run" for me) & working through mistakes, sanding, small efforts & getting better slowly. This is my second attempt at a knife, the first was the 5" fixed blade D2 pair (so glad I didn't use D2 for a 1/4" X 18" blade, ugh). I'm a bit limited by my 1x30 grinder, but it works as long as you aren't in a hurry to do too much at any one time. I've had both blades run at 58, so that should be fine for a chopper & hopefully will take a beating without too much rolling or trouble. The 5160 is plenty tough at 58 & should be OK.

I'm thinking seriously now about making a 2X72 grinder, this 1" belt is fine for small stuff, but it's a real PITA for something this big. It's hard staying awake, while walking a pass across the blade so slowly after lunch sometimes....

Here's how it looks with a 220 finish, the scales in place & basically roughed-in. I'm going up to a 600 grit finish when it's done.

A better detail of the grip, black canvas with red liners will be the look. Still need to cut a lanyard tube for when it gets glued up.

The business end, it's about .025 behind the edge. I'm going to set the bevel at 19 degrees with a medium-fine diamond when it's time to sharpen.

Thanks for looking. This stuff is really a blast! Slow progress, but I'm learning as I go so it's all good.

Looks really good buddy! The only suggestion I have(if you're looking for some) is to match the angle of the plunge and the front of the scales. That's a-lot-o knife to be using a 1x30!
