What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

Got it ground to 120gr And I really need to work on my grinding. Anyways here's the knife. There's just something about this blade shape that seems off.

Drill ALL of your pin holes and lightening ones before you send it out for HT and don't be so critical of yourself!

Finish the knife and cut like a mad man with it until it tells you what to do on the next one! Keep going!:thumbup::thumbup:

Hey thanks for the tips man. I'm waiting on Christmas for the drill press but I didn't plan on sending it out before the pin holes were drilled.
I'm my biggest critic and have high expectations so it's hard not to get frustrated but I also understand I'm VERY green to this.

Still trying to come up with a sheath I actually like. This is my third one and I'm getting closer. Not sure if I like the sandwiched or the taco shell. It's easier to put a thumb release on the taco shell,. But this is just for my personal use around the shop or whet ever. Definitely going to start to use the thicker material. I didn't bother getting too particular with the shape and cleaning the edges up, as I know it's going to get abused starting right away... also trying to figure out what I like better for a belt clip. The ones I purchased I ended up not liking very much, and just formed some more kydex around steel for the belt loop. I ca take the 4 screws out and just leave the one on the front you see for wearing across the back.

so what thickness are you using currently? I have used .080" in the past, but just switched to .060". I think that's plenty for your average knife. Also, do you add a drain hole that I'm not seeing? if not, I recommend it. It doesn't just allow for water to drain, but you can blow the sheath out with compressed air after you finish it and if it gets dirt in it later on.

This is the .060". The rolled over belt loop for wearing on the waist just feels it needs a little more rigidity. The rest seams fine. I may just get a sheet for using on just that and leave the rest the thinner. I don't have a side shot of it with me, I folded it around a piece of 1 1/4" x 3/16" blade stock to get the shape as it's just right for a leather belt and it curls under the inside about 3/8" up. But it just feels like something stronger would last longer. IDK I don't have much experience with kydex sheaths, mainly leather and nylon. I just don't want it to break there.

Also yes, but the drain hole is on the back side.

This is the only image I have right now of one from the back side of one of the sheaths with the belt loop. And don't mind this one either I't wasn't 100% finished when the pic was taken the screws were put right and a drain hole drilled, and finished better.

If I can get the shape right, I may just fold it over the blade stock to get the shape then attach it to back to the top 2 screws and not worry about it as that would give it the strength I'm after.

Working with some pretty cool stuff.

You will become a great knife maker in time.

Beautiful work as always! Mind telling me which glue you're using?
Thanks man! For glueing up my liners and such I really like a medium thickness CA glue. I started using Starbond which I learned from Andy Royer at Fiddleback forge. But I use G-flex for the main handle gluing

So in my last post I submitted my new grinder, now here are the first two, hot off the presses! Or grinder really... I don't have a press... yet.

Anyway here they are, my first forged blade and a Tanto-esque sort of thingy. Both started over at the illustrious Tom Lewis' shop (thanks again for all your help Tom!) and may be finished here in my garage eventually!

Thanks i appreciate the kind words.

Finished sanding this. HOWEVER, one side I progressed up to 400gr the other side I stopped at 150 because I REALLY liked the scratch pattern that came out. Gonna do the ricasso tomorrow

Most resent one is all done. Hopefully I'll start getting to some other style of knives here now. I'm ready for more complicated and exciting stuff.

Looks great Daniel! You must have made a hundred of those by now. How do you like that handle material?

Just finished a sheath for the nessmuk I wrapped up earlier in the week. This was interesting due to the blade shape, but I'm pretty happy with it.

Haha. Yeah, I think I have just about exhausted the pattern for a while. I've gotten pretty good at it thogh and learned a lot. Hopefully I can translate it all into future knives. I really love the Kevlar, good color, and tough. The wires in it cam be a bit annoying but you can work around that and then it's really nice.

Bench is getting pretty full.

Someone suggested I try a tapered tang, so two of them are getting that.

I only screwed up the third. The tang grinds down way faster than I had imagined and I went to far on one side.

Really nice work as usual Daniel. I like the other 2 you showed above as well.
Now I have to ask: Can I see some pics of your photo studio? ;) Your pics look good!

I was at the last few strokes to satin a small kitchen knife and the tip just has broken off...

Since I don't want do redo the finish, i will grind the back of the knife for quite a low tip.

Well, I could if you like but it's just my porch for the photos. I sometimes use a light tent but these were just taken on the porch in the morning light, pretty low fuss it's just takes practice I suppose. These aren't edited much either. I have played around with it some and I've gotten better at photos for sure. I took these pictures with a a D3300 Nikon(entry level DSLR) which helps some too
