Beautiful knives everyone. Thank you all for giving me my daily dose of inspiration.

So finally had some time to finish up my first knife. A Japanese inspired utility/Santoku kitchen knife (01 steel). I went with a sharp angular look for some reason. Don't think I would go with the full flat grind to the spine if I made this one again. I think a bevel would look more interesting.

EDIT:
I did a paint over in Photoshop of modifications I'll make to the next version. I have the other half of the 01 bar left:)

My new "training wheels" for the grinder, a simple sled for cutting the bevels. Got some blanks back from water-jet cutting. It's working OK & easier for a "newbie" to get things more consistent. This is AEB-L & a lot easier to grind than the D2 I've worked with before.

Still needing to make the 2x72 grinder, but parts are on the way & progress is being made now. It will be nice to go from a 1x30 to the 2x72, but the 1x30 still works well enough, if you don't lean on it too hard. Progress pics when there is some....

Nice work guys!

Lots of blackened Zirconium all coming together! This is my most complicated knife yet with over a week into the build.

Daniel, That is a very nice looking folder. May I ask you why you chose zirconium for some of it's parts? Larry

Thanks Larry!

The Zirconium was chose mainly because it can be heat colored black. The black is Zirconium Oxide and about as wear resistant as it gets... even tough to remove with the grinder or sandpaper. I can also get a fine stippled texture on the Zirconium (fine finish and wire wheel) which I like.

I really like the look and talk about a durable finish!

Gearing up to make a couple of carbide file guides. Just need a new 1/4 tap and a .234 drill bit for the alignment pins. Less than $20 investment each. Won't be as precise as the $150 ones people are selling but I'm sure they'll be close enough when eyeballing my plunges when they're done. Gonna work good on the belt grinder. My diamond wheel didn't even want to cut the strips.

Trying to get a decent finish on this one and then I can finally get it put together.

Josh, If my opinion is worth anything I would say that your blade has an original profile and is looking like it will be a very handsome knife. Thanks for sharing. Very nice indeed. Larry

Larry your opinion is worth a lot in my book. Thank you very much. I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished up as it's been in the works for a long time. I just can't seem to get where I'm happy with the blade finish. Better learn quick though because it's a Christmas gift!

What I mean by that, is I don't have a mill and surface grinder. I have a surface plate and sand paper and a cheap harbor freight drill press. I can only make it as precise as my tools allow. My holes may be off a thousandth here or there but it will sit flat and square and the faces will be even. I don't have the tooling the guys making these and selling them have.

That's sweet Kevin.

Getting my parts ready for a new knife vise out of some metal I've had laying around. 3 axis rotatable and height adjustable. Just need to make a couple more parts and get some welding wire. Glad I ran out finally, the last role I bought was the worst wire I've ever used.

Finally got it glued up. Really looking forward to finishing this one. Basically everything about this blade is a first for me. Including the most expensive handle material I've ever used.
