Bout done with my knive vise. Just need to make a few cuts tomorrow at a friends house with his torch, weld on the clamp, make a threaded rod with t-handle and the vise jaws. 3 direction rotation plus height adjustable.

Nice work Trey, that looks pretty darn good regardless of number done.

Thank you very much, just got the tang hole sealed with epoxy last night and will fix my small over grind on my diamond plate tonight and sharpen her up, ready for Christmas. This knife was a present for my Father in Law. Of course since it's my first I'll be doing some cutting tests which I am really looking forward too... :)
Now to pull out my gyuto blanks I profiled and try to figure out how to do a workhorse wide bevel grind.

Knife #25. Made it for one of my friends. It's 1095, with honey mesquite scales. Blade was sanded to 1500 grit, then backed down to 800 and sanded parallel. Handle sanded to 1500 grit and hand polished with wax from Greenburg Woods. Hadn't sharpened them when I took the pics, but have sharpened them with a 500 grit and 2000 grit Shapton glass ceramic water stones. Made the sheath as well, with basket weave stamping, hand stitched. Edited to figure out the pictures.

I have over a week into this one! This has been my most complicated build yet.

Never seen it before. Congrats, that is an awesome machine! I am getting one. :)

My first tip for anyone getting one, flat thread does not work! It won't loop properly and the shuttle will miss it.

I stacked up 5 layers of 9 oz veg tan last night and it plows right through, no problem.

Are you making sheaths? Seems like a very cool rig and that's something I've been wanting to do. I've made a few by hand and they came out good, but very time consuming stitching by hand.
You have to let us know if this speeds things up.

Yes I bought it for sheath making. My whole schtick with knife making is to make everything I can myself. Not because it's better or cheaper or any of the typical reasons, but because it's where I get satisfaction from doing this, and that satisfaction is what keeps it from feeling like a second job.

Anyway, I haven't sewn a sheath yet, only test strips to get the hang of it and I can tell you without hesitation it will speed up sheath making considerably.

I stacked 5 layers of 9 oz veg tan, it was 5/8" thick. Sewed a 6 inch line in 30 seconds. That would have taken me an hour and a fair bit of cussing with a diamond awl and hand needles. And not looked as nice.

I glued up a sheath last night and I will sew it tonight. Stitching will go from being the most time and labor intensive portion to the least. And it is capable of punching through Kydex, so I plan to do some hybrid sheaths now too.

That sounds like an excellent plan, and I agree on the satisfaction of doing it yourself. You can make your own design, and that is part of the bigger picture. Thanks for posting this. I'm all fired up!

Nice! I've slowly been acquiring shop equipment on craigslist for my knife making endeavors, and a sewing machine that can sew thick leather is on my list. Haven't come across any that can sew 9oz leather yet. I like making leather sheaths, but getting the holes lined up consistently is the hardest part. The best method I've used so far is using a drill press with varying results. But getting better.

Those, your are presently showing are very classy pieces, Daniel!!! They are beauties in the degree of finishing and styling you are achieving. Perhaps people with the CNC machines can turn those out in a matter of hours, and good for them, but I say to you spend the week or so on each one now. Maybe tomorrow go to the CNC machine. You will certainly know already what you want as results! Super !!!
