The new light is installed. The instructions say it should be 16' high --- hahahah. How about 4'? The picture doesn't show how bright it is, but it really hurts if you accidentally look up.

The benefit is huge. I didn't know how much my eyes were struggling to see the edge while grinding. This is so much more relaxing. Also the grit lines pop off the blade when you change direction.

OccamsBlade OccamsBlade That oven is all shinny new!! Looks nice. (My old beater oven is in the background on this photo.)

Yeah man, can't have enough lights. I need to get better lighting somehow for my grinder. It's a pain having to adjust the light each time I flip the knife when doing bevel work.

That kiln looks like an oldie but a goodie, haha.

Thats beautiful! Love the shape

Thanks! I like coming up with lines that are pleasing to the eye, and hopefully functional. As a concept artist and graphic design artist it's something I have an eye for. But still have a lot to learn in many other aspects of knifemaking :p

Sent 92 off to ht so made up these in the meanwhile:

Outside sharpening:

Testing. Each blade needs to make three slices, cleanly with no drag or ripping. Any dragging or ripping I redo. Redid two in this batch:

That mammoth...

Can I get a closeup of that from the top or bottom? I've not seen anything like that radiused transition. Stunning. Truly.

This knife has been shipped. Zoom in on the last pic and you should be able to see it, hopefully.

Thanks guys for the kind words.

I got a Jet 2x42 and I'm pumped. It's so much better than my old HF 4x36! I'm still getting used to the substantial leap in power and majorily ruined a blank when I tried it out yesterday. Started over and started to get used to it - I ground a knife like 5x faster than I'd have been able to before.

It's really well made and I know it's going to serve me well. Now I can focus on improving my skills - not fighting with chinesium haha

Those are sweet. Tell us all the good stuff?
thanks
a set for a new customer, 7.5" funayuki and 5" prep
spine thickness a little thicker than I normally make, but ground to a thin edge.
laminated steel blades, Suminagashi with Takefu white core, mild steel cladding, 22 layer
hand forged and quenched in water to 63-64 RC
partial forged finish, sanded and then etched
simple ironwood handles, nothing fancy (to keep in line with customer's budget)
