I've decided to strictly focus on forging from here on out. Did stock removal for a while and got into folders but forging is where my heart really lies. Heres a little hunter I just forged out the other day from cru forge v. Got it forged out, profiled, and grinded to pre heat treat dimensions.

Justin Schmidt Justin Schmidt my friend , you need to put handle on that tang ....I can t imagine one on that tang as it is now .I think that you need to make some correction on tang .....

A 90mm pairing knife in 14C28N at 63 HRC. The handle is multipart Micarta with G10 liners. It's been sharpened with a dry grinder at 7000 SPFM with a dull 2000 grit belt so there are no carbides to be found at the edge. :D

Love the paring knife, Stefan!
If you dont mind sharing, whats your process in grinding a plungeless knife like this?
Do you just grind something like this:

and then feather it all out with hand sanding?

Yeah tang was quite small on that guy. I ended up scrapping it anyway. My file guide slipped off my ricasso and screwed up the plunge line. \_:confused:_/

Thanks!

Yes, first I flat grind like you marked. Then I make a slight hollow with the 36 inch radius platen to get it thin, for better cutting performance.

I've recently had 2 orders for folding knives. These gents want nice machined stuff and I can't make that to those specifications without blowing my savings on a CNC and a month of tinkering. So I decided to do a custom blade swap off a Sanrenmu 7010 and make the blades myself. I opened one of them up and it seems simple enough to make my own, but I'd like to find a thread where people really hot rod their folders and flippers and the like. I think I'd be OK without it but I'd like to study up just in case, so if you know of a place let me know.

I’m not a folder maker but there are books available that have Step by Step instructions. I suggest you cruise Amazon for Folder Making books...

What type? Linerlock, lockback, slipjoint?

This one is a frame lock and pretty simple and elegant, but I want to learn about all of them or at least a lot of the major manufacturers and I figured there was a place where people would talk about what aftermarket modifications people have done to their own folders.

Thanks, I'll give it a look.

Terzola is the name of one that many swear by to learn how to make folders

Working on this one right now. Alabama Damascus, African Blackwood burl scales with red & white fiber liners. Still need to etch my mark, make a pocket sheath, tie a fob on, final cleanup and sharpen.

I feel like I'm beginning to get good enough to start giving stuff away, so this one is a birthday present for my Dad. :D One of these days I'll get the nerve to sell one & pony up for one of those fancy Knife Maker memberships!

Are you a Knife Maker??

You've been registered since'09 and have 2 posts...Hmmmmm

Try using the Custom "Search" engine look for "WIP's" you should be able to find links to previous posted Works In Progress.

Not a specific thread, but check out this section of the forum: https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/maintenance-tinkering-embellishment.794/

There might be good info there about mods & blade swaps & the like.

I registered back when I was a kid looking to be a blacksmith. About three years ago I took a local class on knife making with stock removal and using belt grinders and have been at it ever since. I'm using a local maker's shop and have made maybe a dozen knives or so.
