Well who is that super young Asian kid??? ;) :D

Great photo Don! You're spending time with/making friends with all the right people my man!!!

Peter- that piece you're working on the habaki for looks frick'n amazing!!! :)

Here's something I started today. My best grinds so far! It is hollow ground with the 10" wheel on the main bevel, flat ground on the tip and swedge. I'm calling it the "Texas Tanto".

Working on getting finished up this Chefs Knife. 440C with cocobolo handle and carbon fiber bolster

Howdy folks, so this is my first knife since I started reading this forum... I've made a couple others, but they were more "knife shaped objects" than anything else... please let me know what you think!
It's 1080+ that I got from AKS, along with natural canvas micarta and very thin red G10 liners (They don't have much contrast... too small I suspect). HT done by yours truly in my profane forge, tempered 2 times @400 in a toaster oven on a pan of vermiculite, once for 2 hours once for one (cause i forgot how long I was supposed to do it for the first time). Handle finished to 600 grit oiled with mineral oil and waxed with Johnson's paste wax. The blade is finished to 600 grit as well. It was nearly perfectly clean, but then I screwed up the finish after I put the scales on and realized I forgot to finish the spine... sigh... oh well it's all experience eh? Hope to not make that mistake too many times!

Thanks for looking!
Nice and pointy.... good job man.

Just a heads up, Mike Snody has had a knife he calls the Texas Tanto for a few years now. Not that I care, just wanted to let you know.

Thanks. Guess I'll have to come up with a better name. Not that it matters; I doubt mine will see production status.

Justin- I hate you buddy. :grumpy: :p :D Sweet wheels dude!!!! That is a thing of beauty!

Bob- Great look'n grinds! Cool design too! (please tell me you're going to throw some curves into that guard tho...! ;) :)).

Adam- Love it man... looks like it's a kitchen slicing demon!

h20oni- You can still finish the spine out to where you're happy with it. Just take a piece of leather and fold it like a taco shell, put that around the blade bevel, and clamp it down in your vise. Obviously you have to keep the spine a little higher than the leather and the vise jaws, so that it's exposed. This is how I normally do the final finish passes over the spine of a knife like yours. :) Keep up the good work man! :)

Thanks Nick, I appreciate the tip! Next time I'll give that a go instead of having to finish the flats over again (poorly I might add).

Just finished this little guy:

Steel: AEB-L 60-61 HRC
Handle: Spalted Curly Maple
Pins: Carbon Fiber
Grind: Full Flat
Finish: 600 Hand Rubbed

Thanks Nick. I just finished fitting my first guard on another knife and I'm thinking this may not get one. It was a lot of work! But, I don't have to tell you that!

Started on my first hidden tang knife tonight. Did the profile and rough ground the bevels then fitted a paper micarta bolster.
