A prototype leather saya made from scraps. I don't like the clasp, have something better in mind.
I have been kind of toying making leather "sayas" - I think for many people in the US they would be more "recognizable" as a sheath for a knife than the traditional wood ones. I like your approach, and also the snap. Looking forward to seeing what you have in mind as "better"!

Ok - so below is the first knife I have tried to pull the pieces together and get everything "right" (well ... almost everything right ....).

A santoku for my son's roommate, who had a ceramic sontoku develop a rather nasty chip in the edge. the overall shape is a little funky, but intentionally mimics the original ceramic knife (which had a molded handle on it). AEBL (from one of JT's runs) full flat grind with a scotchbright finish. Handle is dyed/stabilized buckeye burl (from K&G). The school colors are maroon and gold - and colors in this handle are not perfect, but pretty close! I would have liked to use 1/4 corbys in the handle, but this is one of the blades I neglected to have JT put holes into - and I more or less trusted myself to get the 1/8" holes drilled, but was not so sure about achieving the 1/4 in holes...... Finish on the handle is Tru-Oil - I really like what that finish does to stabilized wood! For good or bad - you guys are teaching me to see more of the potential defects - some slight residual scratches on the handle (I swear, they were not at all visible until I put the tru oil on the handle!), and also the grinds are not quite even on either side of the knife (one side has a more defined plunge line than the other), though I did try to hit the center line... I'll keep trying! (still needs final sharpening though - that will finish cleaning up the edge)

Just finished the first of a batch of Lightning Bolt Chef's Knives. W2 blade with SS bolster and stabilized dyed burl maple scales. BTW, I need some tips on how to photograph my work if anyone has some input. Also how do I put images in my post without having to use a link?

Havent a clue how to photograph effectively - though diffuse light is clearly a must (to avoid reflections).

to insert pictures i just display the photo on my computer, nthen use the windows snipping tool (which executes a “copy” to clipboard)to grab the portion of the photo i want, then just paste directly into the post

There is a section here in bladeforums dedicated to imaging techniques.
In "the gallery". I don't know how to link.
