What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

Read and seen a lot until now, but will do. I have a feeling that I am an expert on everything in theory but no shop time :( the chamber is almost done, need to get the fittings. I am going down the fridge compressor route. Wood humidity and soaking time seem to be the 2 most problematic topics. I am going to try to stabilize some known and well seasoned wood first.
Fredy , for new year holidays I will be in Wien for week . This is European ash wood , spalted . I have it almost three years and I don t think that I will ever use it .It is dry , ready for stabilizing .So if you want them to practice stabilizing I can bring it with me ......
They are about 38cm long , 4cm wide and 8mm. thick

Thanks. I will reply per PN.

John Cahoon, that hole there looks dangerous. It is where there is the least amount of steel.

Hi Hengelo, I have seen several other examples by way more experienced makers than me. I ground this months ago and gave it a couple hundred test chops unsharpened before putting on the scales back then, and a couple hundred more after sharpening. I'm only 5'9" and 160 lb so not the most powerful tests but there's no sign of issues. Competition choppers must accommodate a forward lanyard BUT...

Important info here for anyone wanting to make a comp chopper... Months after I ground it I ran across official regs for comp choppers (who knew?)and the front lanyard hole must be a part of the handle IIRC, so this is out of specifications but not dangerous I think. If I do another the upper front pin will be replaced by a tube.

Finally have this blade finished. Now time for the handle, gotta figure out how best to use some .080" thick MOP. I decided ill mark my name on the tang and then on the handle somewhere...I couldnt bare the thought of etching the blade.

I think your video code got a little jacked:

This blade looks freaking awesome!!

Bought some cherry burl from a local guy who harvests it here in southern MN. Finally got a chance to cut it down to blocks suitable for stabilization. Must do some dyed red - but from what I have seen so far, I think the contrast dark colors give works well - maybe also some as royal blue and also brown? (WEO earlier mentioned black - not sure how that would work with burl, though I think it is a great idea for spalted woods.....)
