Mini Kwaiken in progress. 8670 steel, natural micarta

Tried out a new handle material. Orange mycarta, ie the home made stuff. Not as dense and nice to finish as the real Micarta stuff. But still, ok. Tried to buff it with compund but it turned really nasty. So just took it to 1200 grit wet&dry and hit it with some caranauba wax. Micarta pins and G10 liner.

When you sand micarta or g-10, wipe it down with wd-40. The white fuzzy look disappears immediately. I rarely go above 400g now. Even 120g on skinners. The texture helps grip in bloody conditions.

Yeasterday I removed the carnauba finish and put some oil on it, much better. Brought out the orange colour nicely. I guess same effect as wd40, thanks!

My cousin gave me a Nakiri to rehandle, so I am trying my hand at a WA handle again. First one was a total f* up, so I am going really slowly now. Used CA to glue the spacers. Still not sure to go octa or oval. Also it has to be universal size so both her and her husband can use it.

Edit: What size do you compress your pics to?

I like forked butts and I cannot lie. The first of a small run of skinner edc in 80CRV2 with black limba scales, copper/brass pins and campitas turquoise insets. About 7" OAL20-7 1.JPG ETA black n red G10 liners, the red is really subdued tho and likely would be brighter if paired with a different color? Now I need to learn how to weave a leather lace fob.

So stoked about the first WA rehandle, the handle measures 13 cm and 26x22mm at the butt. What do you think of the proportions? I epoxied the knife in today, the handle sits at 180g belt finish. I will round of the corners w 220g and finish at 400g and soak in diy daenish oil. Finish with a coat of wax and hand polish?

Really love the shape you got there, classic. Looks big but that it thins up nice up front to accomodate all hand sizes.

Knife number 2, way to many lessons - i need to get a whiteboard in the shop and write them down, lol. Please let me know what you all think. Kydex tonight.

That's serious work for knife Nr 2! I've seen some glimpses of your shop and it looks like you went full out with the equipment.

I liked the crisp lines you showed after the belt finish on the bevels, which got lost a bit w vertical hand sanding. Your logo seems a bit askew to me. Other then that, material choice, design and finish lvl look very nice!

I did go crazy, but it's something that i knew i would enjoy. Frustrating learning it, but it's worth it in the end. There is a bucket full of blades that went south - so maybe #2 is fake news lol. It's the second knife i've put scales on and completed.

Just finished a knife vise, similar to most of the ones out there.

It has a swivel bracket so I can turn it any way I want.

The good thing about it: years of hording finally pay of. I had all the bit’s and pieces and screws and knobs and rubber and so on lying around (and I even knew where) and I got to use my powdercoating set-up.

Btw, the paint code is Ferrari red, a friend’s company built a metal fassade for a clients garage finished in that color and he was nice enough to give me a few pounds of the paint powder.

Cheers,

Dan

Natlek, you've provided a lot of guidance, help, and encouragement - like many others here. A little bit of everyone here went into this, and for that i thank you all. Hopefully i'll continue to fix the mistakes and improve.
