I have had a very crazy few weeks. Here in South Africa we were quite far from the coronavirus until monday evening. Our president announced a 21 day lockdown starting today. We have about 1000 cases now. Nobody is allowed to leave their homes. However, the good side to all this is that I get more knifemaking time. Here is a Utility/Hunting knife I finished this weekend. About 8.5" OAL, 4" blade and made of 0.16" 14C28N. African Teak handle and s/steel bolster. My third order all done.

I also want to ask about my pricing. What would you pay for this knife? Keep in mind this is only my 5th knife I made on order. I sold this one for ZAR900 (about $50). Is this the right price or do you think I should ask more/less?

Thanks for reading,
Reuben

Beautiful Mark! Real cool.

Hey Netlek,
I use saddle soap, a product made by "kiwi" brand show shoe polish. Mink oil is a good option too I think, but Horsewright Horsewright would be the one to ask about this for sure!!

I prefer to use a cream paste conditioner like either Skidmore's, Oakwood or Williams. Lot of folks will tell ya to use neatsfoot oil but I only do this intially as part of the construction. It is simply too easy to oversautrate a piece and there's no coming back from that. The creams work better. Once your leather is cracked though its toast. No coming back from that either.
Guys , I soak in water this one for forming and now it is hard like steel ? How i would bring back softness ?

Don't make it too soft. Some firmness is great for sheaths. Your stitching is pretty darn good for just a few tries.

Reuben,

Gorgeous work here, i think you're under selling yourself pretty hard here. It seems difficult though trying to pin the right number.

Thanks! It has been a productive Quarantine. I'll be putting all my equipment in storage in the next 2 months so this next batch will be my last for a few years while I'm overseas.

I hear you. I struggled to get time to do anything this whole past year, but finished 9 knives in the past few weeks.

Please be safe out there, hang tough brother.

Here's a new Black River Hunter in 80CRV2 and Ironwood with red/white fiber liners and 5/23" stainless pins. Finished to 1200 grit all around. Edge is near sharp and I'll finish that today and make some progress on the sheath I hope. OOOOHHH 10000th reply what did I win?wip.JPG wip1.JPG
