Those being the first magnacuts for me, I left it to their recommendation, which I suppose is where my culpability lies. I didn't know what hardness would be best between 60-63 like it says in the spec sheet. I was in the middle of finals, so I was trying to get them out the door. Later though I went and read the Magnacut article to see it's well balanced at 62-63, losing some toughness going higher, losing wear resistance going lower.
That's too bad. From what I've read I would have gone a few points higher also. Realistically they will likely perform well, but it's definitely more exciting to know it's exactly how you want it.

Honestly, if I gave one to somebody who wasn't a knife person they would likely still praise it, but knife people are turned off by the number 59.

I sent them out at the end of May. Within a few days of arrival they were listed as "tempering." 2 weeks later, still tempering. I called to see what was up. They told me Brad was out and would finish when he got back. Im guessing he was at blade show for part of it. Then 2-3 weeks more and they finally showed up. I was a bit unnerved by 59 hrc, so I message Larrin Thomas to see what he thought. He had no idea why they would have decided on 59. In all it was about 7 weeks of waiting with shipping, so I was more glad to have something to work on than upset about the hardness. Now, however, I would like to get some better HT done. I still have a few of the original magnacut blanks unfinished, but bevels are ground. So re-HT could be an option, but there would be some warping risk
Peter's screwed me on a bunch of AEB-L blades. Brad said AKS gave me bad steel. Brad is not cool. I'd say more about how I feel about him and Peter's, but I'm nobody that makes knives, and don't want to get in trouble for saying he's full of crap

Very nice knife, Fred.

I almost called you to ask for help with the bubble jig this week, but I think it started to work for me. Still having trouble with grinding the tip of the knife, and the edge seems to swell from the ricasso to the tip, though. I was wondering if you have any pointers for those two areas.
Please give me a call. I can be of more help if we can talk about this. I'm retired and I'm here most of the time. I think you are maybe one or two hours earlier than we are here in Ohio. Give me a call tomorrow ten am your time. Regards, Fred

I can spare a few minutes at 10 my time. Looking forward to speaking with the bubble jig's inventor :)

Thanks ! Obviously you know this style of knives .I intend to sharpen this knife like scandi /zero edge/ no secondary edge , what do you think about that ?

Honestly, I think zeroed scandis are impractical. Just speaking from personal experience, but a hairs width micro bevel goes a long long way toward edge stability with almost no noticeable difference in cutting ability.

Cant speak to the steel you're using, but unless its a dedicated carver for soft woods, I'd put a tiny micro bevel on it. Just one mans opinion though.

I typically scandivex my high beveled blades if I want them zeroed. Even on super tough steels that can run really thin.

We are back into full lockdown here after a year and a half of no restrictions. Bummer! However I have heaps of steel plenty of belts and plenty of handle materials so gunna punch out some projects....
