What's going on in your shop? Show us whats going on, and talk a bit about your work!

May I ask who did the surfacing, what kind of shop does that for future reference? I have seen some track on local craigslist that is affordable.
Just a local machine shop with a Bridgeport milling machine.
If you explore train tracks you'll find the sections of rail just laying around.

Any machine shop with a 3" or larger face mill can do it. Its a 15 minute job, if you show up with a gift knife or similar for the machinist it would be easier :)

I'll advise caution here. I can't remember if this has changed, but IIRC, the rail companies used to be able to charge you for trespassing and stealing for picking up stuff like spikes and sections of rail off the side of the tracks.

On one hand that seems ludicrous. On the other hand, I can see that they just might want to discourage someone coming by and, say, removing a spike that was actually in place and holding a rail in place…

I agree... Now, I'm not suggesting this, but possibly a don't ask/don't tell policy is best, especially for those sections that obviously haven't seen any traffic in years?

Agreed. The workers I've talked to aren't worried about. I've hunted off the tracks for years. They're more interested in what deer I've seen. I'd imagine if one causes problems they'll get serious though.

^I dig that tooling

Here a couple of knives I've been working on lately. Both are 4" drop point hunters, one with a Randall model 27 handle pattern, the other in a Scagel style. Bother AEB-L steel heat treated with cryo to HRc-61-62. Still have to make the sheaths for them, then off to the customers they go.IMG_4185.jpegIMG_4187.jpeg

For a while I've been wanting to make a replica of the iconic Western 49 Bowie. Finally got around to it with significant modifications, especially the extra long and extra bent brass guard, I dialed it back a lot. the original also had a dropped choil that I removed on this one (I have another that has one similar tho). The handle contours on this one are very different than the high angles on the original too, much more rounded with a modest finger choil. These are just under 12" OAL significantly smaller and handier IMO than the original Bohemeth. This is in NitroV and Chechem. Backstory below.21-41 1.jpg21-41 2.jpg21-41 3.jpg

OK I teased the backstory: In the early 80's or so my brother and I each got one and used them for years. Fast forward to the early 2000's and I'm going camping with 2 nephews and dabbling in knifemaking so when they were 10 or 12 years old I offered them each one of my knives. Well, one chose a decent knife I made and one chose the beat up old W49! He eventually got one of mine too but jeez!
