because the titanium is so flexible and springy- and I've built a two handed handle which will allow a significant amount of power to be put into a cut- I was feeling a little wary of the handle slabs peeling off the tang. The Terotuf slabs are glued to nice thick vulcanized fibre with gflex + toughener, and to the tang with the same stuff. The brass pins were turned down to size with a rasp and have deep circumferential scratches that I hope some epoxy stayed in when I was pressing everything together. The turk's head knot at the front of the handle is saturated with gflex as well and I tied it super tight. Anyway, still not 100%, I tapped the pins today and countersunk the bores enough to get these aluminum bolts in nice and flush. They'll be epoxied in there permanently. If all goes according to, well, whatever it is I think I'm doing, this should be a pretty bombproof handle.

Borrowed a fellow knife makers Scotch-Brite belt (it's the first time I've used one) I'm definitely going to have to get me one of these!View attachment 1651654

this is a weird project in that there was no planning involved. I had in mind when I received the forged billet from Mecha Mecha that a swedge would be neat, but really just decided to do it today. Everything about this project presented a pretty significant risk for failure since I was making it up as I went, but it's just about finished and I'm feeling surprisingly pleased with myself at the moment.

one cool thing about wet molding leather to titanium is you can leave it in there for days, months or years and that titanium will just keep on glowing

It looks awesome with that swedge! 😍

Lorien Lorien did you grind a recess for the cord wrap in the micarta? I've never thought of a handle feature like that cord wrap you have there, but it would be really useful for grip, not only to prevent slipping forward, but it would have good traction for pinch grip à la Joe Flowers as well.

Just back from Peter's, HRC 62 S90V, I forgot how pretty it was! Got some Kirinite on the way! You know you're probably wouldn't think of me as a Kirinite type of guy but I do have a thing for Kirinite and not just any old synthetic either! Kirinite can be buffed up to a pretty high polish and still be grippy as heck!1633437970189.jpg
