hand finishing titanium is so easy compared with hardened steel. Might have to do the whole blade...

I'll have to fire up the gopro tomorrow

I'm fairly positive it's not decarb since I ground the blade quite a lot after heat treatment (60 grit all the way the way to A30)
Something I forgot to mention, even though the hamon came out near the edge, the shadows follow my clay pattern closely.

Once etched with lemon juice, other than the hamon, the shadows are visible when held at the proper angle.

It is not an uncommon effect. Most folks like it.

The surface of the blade after yaki-ire will be a mixture of structures. The ha will be martensite, the hamon area is a mix of martensite and pearlite, and the ji will be mostly pearlite with specks and islands of martensite and a few other structures ( nie and nioi).

Us old timers used to call the mix in the hamon Troosite, but the new guys like Larrin have electron microscopes today and don't use that term anymore.

Been some time since I've posted. Here are two recurve bowies I wanted to share:

First one has stabilized mammoth ivory handle, papermicarta spacer with decorative fullers, stainless guard and a hand rubbed satin blade made from 1.2695, which is an extremely wear resistant steel from Lohmann in Germany. I'm really proud to achieve a hand rubbed satin on this thing at all, because it was hell.

Second one has a stabilized amboina handle, stainless guard and an acidwashed blade made from 80CrV2, which is my standard go-to steel.

Leather sheaths as always are handmade by me aswell and those two are some of my best leatherwork yet.

Let me know what you think.

Edit: oh yeah I forgot to mention: they are a little over 9 inches long overall with a 5 inch blade.
