Just finished sanding the handle, a little bit of cleaning up and sharpening to do still.
I got the billet from dion Damascus, it’s stainless Damascus San mai with Nitro-V core with copper and nickel shims. Dude is awesome. I think the blue is the reflection of my shirt, hand sanded to 2,000 and etched in muratic acid, followed by ferric.Hot damn, Kevin. That is a beautiful piece. Care to talk about the damascus pattern? Looks like some copper in the mix, but I'm not sure what's with the blue hues on the blade, unless it's a lighting thing. Really like the handle construction as well.
`Yeah, looking more closely, I can see the same blue in the highlights of the stain or oil splotches on the cardboard behind the blade. Definitely a reflection of the color of your shirt. The way the highlights changed from blue to black was a clue in the first place. It would be cool if you could forge those types of color shifts into a billet. I guess that's why copper is so popular right now.I got the billet from dion Damascus, it’s stainless Damascus San mai with Nitro-V core with copper and nickel shims. Dude is awesome. Thank you for the complimen.

Btw, what's your handle material configuration. The wood at the butt look maple-ish.

Ordered the laser through alibaba via a gentleman on Instagram with the handle jwlaser_lucas.
This specific one is a 50W (runs on 110) fiber laser which is way overpowerd for what I need it to do (makers marks, light engraving, etc) but I never wanted to be wishing for more power as I explore it’s capabilities.
Lucas has sold lasers to many other makers, and I checked with several of the more well known ones and they’ve all been incredibly happy with the machines and experience.
Hoping to have it here in the next few weeks, and until then I’ve been binge watching YouTube videos that Ben Tendick was kind enough to put me onto.
Tell us more about the laser - power? Perhaps a link where you ordered it?
Looks great Pablo! Do you find you need to change settings significantly between annealed and hardened steel?Same line of thought about the power, got a 50w JPT laser last week from Mactron, also Alibaba, been practicing since then:
