whew! No opportunity for try fits with this one. Designed like a crush cap, only one try and ya betta make sure it's glued up cuz it's not coming apart without a fight!
Gotta hit town tomorrow so she'll have some time to cure before I bash the shit out of the end of that tang

It is set up nicely. I suggest you peen gently, many light blows, don't whack it.

i think you should cut a narrow slot in the center of the tang, spread it open using a metal chisel and peen it down from there.
by cutting the slot you get it to open wide much easier than just peening it. as it opens up peen it in until everything has expanded well
easy to trim off any excess and make it look good/like you meant to do it that way..

I didn t make any knife for a long time and I pay for this steel , so I made a duplicate in mild steel ... no room for mistake 😇I will grind that one first .Now I need to decide flat or hollow and how thin behind edge ? Steel is CPM S30V and 62 Hrc?

And one for sacrifice 😊

And as always I work backwards ......sheath for this knife is almost done .....for one of them , I hope that mild steel one would not end up with better bevels 🤣
I will use African black wood for scale so black sheath with yellow kevlar would look cool ....
I made two front sides , that one on the left side is not good ....contact cement i used under soaked on surface so i have no idea what would look like when after wet forming sheath I pour out epoxy over kevlar .

Couple quick pics of a Shechita I have been working on. Still need to do the handle install and sharpening. CPM 20CV blade, 17.75" cutting edge, 2.4" wide, full flat grind with a high polish satin finish. Black Linen micarta handle. The other knife is a 240mm Tanaka R2 gyuto for size comparison. The Shechita is HUGE and took a long time to grind/polish!

ps. anyone have an idea of what kind of wood this might be? Not oily. Harry Matthews sent it to me years ago and I don't think I even knew what it was then. Realistically, I probably forgot:rolleyes:

It looks like it might be Honduran rosewood, if you have a small shaving of it you can burn it, if it smells like incense then it’s rosewood.
