FInished up this classic style gokujo/boning knife for the Kith. Thin stick tapered for a nice amount of tip flex

Simple knife but very happy with the result and small details. Good old 1084 with swamp Kauri handle heirloom fit.

The knife looks good, but just out of curiosity, why did you heat the tang up?

This is going to be my second attempt at a friction folder. First time was a complete failure. Mostly due to me assuming I could just flow along with the design like I would with a fixed blade. Just having a rough Idea of what I want it to be, and making it happen. Unless someone was specifically asking me to make something.

So this time, I'm making sure dimensions will actually work like I want them too. My method is pretty primitive. And I will likely do some testing along each step to make sure what I'm doing is going to work, but I have a good feeling about it this time.

If it goes well, I may look into getting proper hardware, so it can be taken apart, and stuff like that. First step is just getting this one done though.

Edit: actually you can see the first failed attempt up at the top. Its cpm d2, I actually just reheat treated it properly, and ive ground down the tang portion so I can make some kind of hidden tang blade with it.

Oh I was going to ask this in the post above, but I forgot N Nick-D I've heard the term heritage fit before. What exactly does that mean? Ive never heard an explanation of what it means Is it just a style?

Yeah it refers to a non flush fitup. You can see the scale on the handle in the second photo are about a mm proud of the tang. It's sometimes referred to as a museum fit as well.

Used a lot in hidden tang fitups between timber and bolster material.

Adds a little visual interest and prevents sharp edges forming between 2 different materials that will expand extract at different rates over time.
