I got some Coop photos of the completed bird's head Bowie and sent the other coffin handle one while I was at it.

I got something in the mail today I should have ordered awhile ago!
Pretty happy with it, the guy at Buck eye engraving was very good with helping me tweak it until it was exactly the way I wanted it.
Smack with a hammer pre heat treating?
Or actual Press?

I need to figure something out soon.....
Thanks.

Rough fitted my bronze guard. I'm debating whether to finish the front of the guard I kind of don't like that peened look anymore.(my blade thickness was .094", and I only have a .125" end Mill , so I did the hammer trick and mashed it nice and tight!) Now I've got about an hour and 25 minutes into this blade. I know it's not a race but I don't have a lot of time to work on knives lately with my new job!1661978915489.jpg1661979041746.jpg

Yes,
You can use either a hammer or press, depending on what you have.
I ordered mine so I can use it to stamp cold or hot, though I like the way it looks better when using it hot, (which is what I did for the photo) it just makes it look cleaner and more uniform.

Did you give any thought to the orientation of the logo stamp? I recently got a cold stamp and have been oriented the letters to read handle-down. My thought that it was commercial companies like Case and Buck orient that way and the consensus from the knife collectors I spoke to was handle-down.

I think as long as you are square/parallel to something, and you do it consistently you're good.

I personal like it best if you can read it while you hold the knife comfortably by the handle.

For me it depends on the blade, if I’m doing, say a hunter I’ll put it up by the spine parallel to the blade, if I’m doing something like a dagger (or probably anything with a full on ricasso) then I’ll put it handle down or perpendicular to the blade.

If you are looking for a stamp & happen to be in the MKE area, check out Jera Metals. Super nice folks, and skilled makers. In the Mukwanago area.

thank you...... I am.

I never heard of Jera Metals.
I'll have to look them up!

Fooling around at the job site after work yesterday everybody had fun taking my little 52100 sheepsfoot through some pressure treated lumber knots and all ! Everyone was amazed that it still shaved after going through three rounds of chopping including some pretty hard knots!1662213884048.jpg
