Finally finished up the first of two cleavers last night.
Went with a 24 degree cutting edge. Total height at thickest part of the blade is 3.25”. Convex grind to 1.25” up from edge. Man this was a long one. Learning a ton. Knife #8 done.
Same knife as post # 14768
Irish Bogoak and I'm taking the time fo fill the pores.
I think it is beautifull! (800 gritt and 6000-8000 years old)
As dark as blackwood but with a lot more figure.
Finished up the grind in this 9” ApexUltra chef knife, I’m going to be donating this one to Warriors Way Forge, they do free classes for veterans and first responders year round. So hopefully this one helps them raise funds for future classes. Just have to finish the handle and round the edges of the choil and spine
Finished 2 knives this week. Not easy getting in the shop in south Florida during the late summer months. A filet knife for myself and a kitchen knife for a friend of my wife.
This is the other knife I glued up at the same time I glued up my KITH kitchen knife. It’s green burlap micarta I got from Pops, yellow G10 liners and white G10 pins. It’s going to a Green Bay Packers fan hence the color scheme. I’ve got a little cleanup and then to make the sheath.
Marked the swedge on the grinder, now will file it in until last 15% or so.
This one is just over 9” oal, blade 4-5/8”tip to bolster, tapered tang, SS pins and bolsters on African Blackwood.
1) Taper the tang
2) Add black scales
3) Make it shiny
-Humma-humma!-
It's the same knife as in post # 14.784, but I really like how this bog oak is turning out. I filled the pores up to 800 and took it to 2000 after that.
