Modified the drive wheel on my grinder to accept a 9" disc, also threw on an additional tube to accept a platen.
This'll probably be temporary until I build a dedicated disc grinder. Anyone else ever try making their own 9 inch disc with magnetic swap-able plates for different grits? Similar to the Nielsen hub?

This one is almost ready for its sheath and hand sharpening. I sanded and buffed the handle this morning. The blade is SF100 stainless steel with a leather stacked handle.

Love it! Wish ya were on this side of the pond. Would love to learn from ya in person. You put out great work.
Thank you for your kind words, I really appreciate it.
While it's not the same, technology has shrunk distances. If you ever need help, feel free to contact me (contact info on my signature) and we can arrange a video call or something.

That is called a yad (hand) in Hebrew. It is used to point to the torah while reading it.
I had no idea something like this existed, looking at it now and there are so many awesome and elaborate designs.

Tony Mont Tony Mont I’ve already moved on. I’m in the mode of trying things I’ve never done or never done very well this year. I needed to push myself harder than I have been. I’m not worried about how high my output is so I’ve been focusing on execution and trying to get as close to perfect as I can with whatever tooling I have available. I also hope to start working with higher end steels this year but I haven’t decided which ones yet.

Your stuff gets crazier every time you post pictures. I always look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Started making a clone, or rather my interpretation, of a Hossfeld No. 2 universal bender back in december, and finally got around to finishing it

Pins and tooling still have to get hardened, whenever I get around to that, also debating painting some of it.
It also has a longer handle, just in case, to slip over the short one in the pictures, but since its longer than the bender itself, it would've been way out of frame.

The frame is 60x15mm (~2 3/8"x 9/16") pins are 22mm (~7/8"), there are 2 large blocks with offset holes, meant as stops/followers for stock, a small bending dog (hossfeld calls it an eye bolt bending dog) with a long slot and a long m12 screw to set- and square it up to the stock, a slightly smaller block for sharp bends, with a shorter pin welded to it to keep it from rotating, and 2 shorter pins with a 3/8" and a 1/2" square cut into them to accept sockets, if those happen to have the right radius that I need for a bend.
There are also 2 spacers that I turned (those were actually the first real parts that I have made with the lathe attachment) to pick up the larger blocks off the frame, so the moving frame can fit under the blocks, should it be necessary. I'll make dies of different radii as needed, so I currently don't have any. The frame is partly bent, and partly welded (I cut it about 2/3 way, bent it, and welded the open end shut), as I wasn't able to bend 15mm stock by hand :p

I got the roughing done, next step is to establish all the lines and then polishing everything.

ScarFoot ScarFoot Thank you for your kind words! I was really fortunate to have people help me and build upon that, pretty much the embodiment of standing on the shoulders of giants.
Keep focusing on execution and soon you will nail any technique that you want.

Jean micarta? Love that stuff

I put the handle on top of the tang to get a perspective of how it would look. Antler is definitely not for the faint of heart. At least with a block you install the tang then grind down the block into a usable handle. Horn has no set line, etc. You must conform to the whims of the horn or ruin it…
