On a Karambit kick lately. Went through several design iterations of a Utility Karambit with a 2.5 inch blade. I settled on the top three (same design) all in S90V. Took input from a friend, PS practitioner and former Marine to refine the shape and voila! What do you think?

Pretty cool, but I like more traditional styled blades, I like the hooked/beak/talon style blades...

Doing a little experiment today to see which blade cuts a 2.75” Westinghouse Micarta rod the best when using a miter saw.

Table saws and miter saws run faster than I’d prefer for Micarta. My thinking is that by using a smaller 7.25” circular saw blade, it will decrease the speed of the blade teeth, increase torque, and reduce friction because of the smaller kerf. A liquid cooled, horizontal, metal-cutting bandsaw would definitely be ideal for this (and is what I’ll use for the 4-3/8” rod)…. But whatever.

We’ll see how it goes (yes, I’ll be using clamps, lol)…

What about a wood cutting bandsaw? I think it would go through that Micarta like a hot knife through butter, plus you would save quite a bite of material with the thinner kerf of the bandsaw.

My 14” bandsaw blades are about $50 each and don’t last very long when cutting 2” Micarta.

The kerf on my bandsaw blade is .025”, while the kerf on the circular saw blade is .059”, so it’s not too bad.
