Sorting out 32 heat treated blanks from S Seedy Lot

When I was following the tracking number back from Scott (since it was such a precious box), they went from Denver to Honolulu, Hawaii. A customer made this funny photo of them on their vacation.

I just had a knife ship from New York down to Kentucky, Georgia, and back to New York where it disappeared.

Pleased you didn't lose that beautiful work, my sack would have been shriveled during that wait ;)

32 blades = wow.

I finished both knives yesterday. I have a little touch up to do on the scrimshaw on the smaller one, but that won't take long. The two knives have around 100,000 lines total. I like to do the traditional scrim style artwork where the number of lines and crosshatch determine tone density.
I am going to experiment with some old line gravers that make many lines at one time in hand engraving. I will see if I can make a 4-line graver into a 4-line scrim tool. That might allow light background fill or other effects.

Some of the photos seem a bit overexposed due to the white/black contrast and editing I have to do for them to show up well. Click any image to start the slide show. Once in slide show, click any image and it will expand to greatly enlarged for close inspection.

That is a true work of art! Nice job!

Thanks, I have a bit of fixing to do on the swimming whale. I have to change the fin. There is too much ink in the lower part. Also, I haven't added the bumps along the upper part of the snout. I'll post the before and after later on that one. I also spotted that I have some excess ink to rub off at the baby whale's snout. Mom needs a few more accent lines in her tail, too.

More Shiny S90V Shechita!

36 Actirox and VSM 36 Grit 885, then 60, 80, 120 VSM 885. Then I grind the flats on the contact wheel to make sure all of the previous deeper scratches are out, then switch to a 120 X flex Hermes ceramic and 220 Hermes Ceramic. Then I work up 65, 45, 30, 16 Norax Ceramics, (I also add in the Trizact Ceramic 45 and 30 at those steps, too to give a different type of cut), then back down to 220, 320, 400, 600 1000 SIC belts, all on a leather platen.

I recently started making knives. I ended up deciding to build my own tiltable 2x72 grinder due to cost, and because I have experience with machinery building.

This was my 3rd knife, and the first one I was reasonably satisfied with:

This was my first "full batch", before HT (all 1084)

The first knife shown below was the first to get my maker's mark. I went to my old work and borrowed the benchtop power supply, worked quite nicely IMO.

I'm trying to make every knife significantly different from the last, because I'm still learning, and I feel like I need to try each style and technique individually before I start trying to combine too many things.

Here's some full tang patterns I was working on last night, I have some hidden tang patterns in the works, but nothing showable yet:

My next run will be all S35VN... interested to try stainless for the first time.
Nice work!

I like my friends , did i already told you that ? I let him choose for himself whichever knife he wanted. He chose. Now his daughter is marrying an American . He is flying there on Tuesday and wants to give a hand made knife to his future son-in-law who is Scout. Ok, I let him choose between these... ........and he choose one for which I have no sheath ???????
So Nick, I hope you will like it , all the best in your future life with the Macedonian bride :)

He chose the color of leather and the only thing I could do with that leather is this...........

Nice work, and very generous gift!

Couple of weeks ago I saw a knife in this thread from Navman that had a rounded spine and some jimping and I really liked it. This is my first finished blade with those features and even though I could have rounded the spine a lot more, I still like it and will do more of it. So thanks to Navman but also many others for all for all the inspiration I get from this thread.
I am a little bothered by the rough finish inside the decorative grooves on the bolster but maybe we can say it's "rustic".
