I actualy got out of the workshop and I realy enjoyed it. My first time having a table at a knife show.
I spoke to a lot of interesting and interested people and made a few people happy with my work as well.

Very cool, I've never even been to a knife show.

Has anyone ever hand rubbed cruwear at 63-64hrc? This is just one side... Regular sandpaper doesn't seem to do much of anything. Used a combination of stones and diamond lapping film, waiting to finish this side after more lapping film arrives. This one side took about 6hrs though.

I would try EDM stones and SiC paper. I used SiC and Ceramix Trizact and Ceramic Norax belts on hardened S90V and got a nice belt finish. Cruwear at 60 didn't seem that bad on the one I did so far, but it may be a different story at 64! Magnacut at 64 isn't bad either?

Yep I'm using edm stones to get me to 600 grit. Sic paper doesn't do much at all though unfortunately.

When you ground the s90v, did you alternate your grind direction to make sure the deeper scratches were removed? If not I would encourage you to try it, makes a big difference.

Yeah magnacut isn't nearly as bad to hand rub in my experience. Crazy haha

Oh, surprised the SiC doesn't do much! It polished up my S90V pretty nicely and gave a nice shine from the belts!

When I did the S90V, I alternated direction at the 120 and 220 steps to make sure I got the deeper scratches out and then went up from there for the Shechita. I still seemed to have lingering scratches that the newer, finer belts wouldn't remove. I would grind on the wheel like a surface grinder at 120 to get all of the deep scratches out, then do a belt satin 120 on a soft platen, then grind on the wheel again at 220, then regular on the belt soft platen at 220 and worked my way up from there with belts on soft platens. It's not a mirror finish, but is a nice satin finish that the customer liked. For smaller S90V stuff, I just do a regular satin finish by the belt with soft platens and don't go crazy with the finish. I was very happy with the finish on my little Bird and Trout I did and it performed awesome this past weekend! I was helping clean fish at a Take a Vet Fishing day and cleaned over 150+ trout at least (heads off most, gutted all) and only had one small wrinkle when I beheaded a bass someone caught and wanted cleaned. I touched up the blade with my diamond strop partway through, but it didn't really need it. One of my buddies was using one of my AEB-L blades at 62 HrC and there was more micro chipping/wrinkles on that blade and it was noticeably duller when I touched it up as well, so I was happy with how the S90V did!

I also found that with the soft S90V (pre heat treat), a hard platen was best to get previous grit scratches out. When I used a leather or hard felt platen, the belts had a hard time removing scratches from the previous grits.

yes, been doing z wear/cru wear for over three years now.

if you want to save your time, then it is 3M Diamond Lapping Microfinishing Film PSA Back 125 micron to the rescue.
you can do one side in an hour or so, but it's not cheap, one full sheet is about $35.
You can follow up with the 70 micron diamond film
I usually finish with 45 micron
