The knife is designed for gardening and other vegetative states. The main bevel is hollow ground, but has a tall convex secondary bevel. The area up at the front leading to the tip was ground with an appleseed bevel profile,. The hand rub blends it all so it's not obvious to look at. I was aiming to make it a little more dramatic looking, but I haven't mastered the finishing skills I need to do that with my grinder, and doing it well by hand is...fuck that!. This knife is going to live in the dirt anyway, so as long as it works who cares
This is a gift to my dad for his birthday - I wanted something more blingy and special.
It's elmax 3.6 mm thick, circa 95 mm long blade, with faux ivory, bronze and walnut burl on the handle.
Also note the new maker's mark - I got some weird looks due to the previous "Z" and I just did not want to deal with it (esp. since I support Ukraine 100%). So, goodbye to my mark that was supposed to be a reference to my background (square brackets are used a lot in software engineering), hello to my handwritten signature that looks like it was scribbled by a 5 year old.
Also unfortunate was the choice of bronze - as you can see from the color, it's two different alloys (the guard is I think some free machining bronze, the thinner spacers are some phosphorous bronze probably?). The color difference was obvious from the start, I do not know what I was thinking - maybe that it was just oxidation and after sanding they will even out. Well, they didn't.

that's a kickass knife right there.

That might explain why I could not find it I went back four pages 🤪
hey folks, while I was meaning to delete a duplicate post I made, it appears I deleted this whole thread!
who in their right mind would ever allow me to have that power??? 😂

My apologies! Happy Sunday

Amazon has some carbide strips you can superglue to the sides of that guide to make it last longer. I think they are $20 or $30?

Thanks for that TAZ, I will keep that in mind. Does superglue not decompose under the heat?

I have hardened the tool and I am quite surprised and very pleased with its effectiveness, with the thickness I have made it the tool hangs on the platen and hardly touches the belt. Might be beginners luck.

Apologies everyone for dragging this thread back to, what must appear to you all, basics.20230830_204608.jpg20230830_204740.jpg
