  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Cut open a piece of rather plain looking Bocote in search of knife scales but found this monster inside instead! :)

Well, I finally made some progress on a Bowie I started last year...

I need to forge more... I have a hard time estimating how much I need to leave for a tang. Gonna have to weld/braze on some all-thread or something. It's too stubby.

Not much to show this week as of yet. Last week was super cold here so I only got 3 knives done.

This week I’m already behind thanks to prepong for a new batch of heat treating. I like to do around 20-30 at a time to make the most of my liquid nitrogen and limit the number of times I’m firing up the oven.

I have a new to me steel coming and not one I hear a whole lot about. Zapp Z-12 Ultra, it’s also known as ASP2053. The data sheet claims are interesting where it says that it has 25% more edge retention than 10V and 50% more toughness than 10V. Best I can tell it should land somewhere around M398 on Larrin’s catra chart. I highly doubt it has 25% more edge retention. The toughness might also be a bold claim but even if it’s on par with 10V it should be an interesting steel to test.
