I free hand on a carbide platen. Never had any issues with warping on these steels (S90V, 4V, 10V...). If I use AEBL I grind post-HT. I send all my blades to Peters' and they have not come back warped yet. I do make a post HT pass on the flat platen after HT to clean them up and ensure true flatness.

Well I normally wouldn't do one like this but I had a custom order that left me with only 5 1/4", just so happened it lent itself to a kiridashi like profile so there you have it. NitroV and Padauk with an S/Chisel grind. Should that be a shizzle grind? Anyhow I'll finish polishing the handle tonight.

a carbide platen raises the qc up a fair notch or two, eh? Man I love mine.

Just getting back to the shop again after a few years distractions! A friend inspired me to make him a small EDC and now I have made a few more to help get back in the flow of it. This just finished up, a 52100 steel hollow grind and a new sheath design I made. Great to be making them again!

Kephart in Alpha's A2, target hardness 62 HRC. Hardened at 1775F with a -100F cold treatment followed by two tempers at 400F. Hand polished to 1500 grit and convexed. Richlite handle with G10 liners. First time using Loveless bolts. I'm not sure how durable this edge will be. I have yet to test it. Kepharts are my favorite to use but not my favorite to look at, though I did alright here if I don't say so myself.

My carbide platen has led to plenty of issues on the way to better quality. Multiple little things have become apparent that I probably missed before because even my ht A2 platten seemed to quickly change shape.

I am now realizing that my grinder wheels might need to be replaced. Before that I adjusted my guide and that was after I had to rebuild the guide after some bad late night ideas of trying to fix the issues I did not know I had.

At this point all is good so I will wait to replace the grinder wheels when I can handle more readjustment.

Just before Christmas I posted three blades I just got back from Paul Bos. Just finished the three. I attempted to keep them as close to identical to each other as I could.
I know at least two of the three blades came from the same bar of stock. All three are from the same steel shipment/order and heat treated at same time.
The edge length is 3.25” w/OAL 7.5”.
.125” stock 14C28N steel, HT ~ 63Rc
Richlite “Nautical” handle w/ black g10 liner
Brass pins and Loveless bolt w/ white Gorilla glue.
Now to see which handle shape I like for different uses.

Finished up another. Probably call this one “Bodyguard”. It has that back-up, tactical look/feel.
5/32” 14C28N stock : Paul Bos HT ~63Rc
4” edge : 8” OAL
Charcoal Dymalux w/blue g10 liner
Paper micarta pins and SS Loveless bolt glued w/ white Gorilla glue
Blade and handle at 400grit “wet” finish
