This has not happened to me in a while. It was a nice piece of ironwood too.
The blade looks nice though. I'm looking forward to finishing it (somehow for no reason at all I am thinking a frame handle construction might be appropriate).
(EDIT: you know what, I will actually split the block down the middle, and make the frame handle out of the two sides, saving most of the material...)

Reminds me of the time I somehow screwed up spectacularly while glueing up a handle. Lack of sleep, and picking a wrong marked line for straightness was my culprit back then, but I can't remeber anymore. Thankfully it was a small shop knife I made for myself out of leftover pieces, that would've otherwise ended in the trash, so it doesn't bother me looking at a stripe of epoxy that was revealed when sanding down to final size on one of the sides :D

That just happened to me today. Ground into that black of walnut while shaping the handle and...bam...epoxy. πŸ’©

I've had a rotary platen for a few knives now, but the one I have has limits on its use. Maybe for safety reasons, idk?

I can't leave anything alone, so I modded mine.
Now I can use my bevel guide as a stop on it.
Or, super thick handle scales won't get hung up/bumped by the frame.
I cut/ground out the body on the 3 areas of use. Now I have good access to left/right on the whole thing if I made rotary platens, This is how I'd do it, for better versatility.
Top pic has one area modified, for testing.IMG_20260329_092338943.jpgIMG_20260404_133821806_HDR.jpgIMG_20260404_133854723_HDR.jpgIMG_20260404_133917551_HDR.jpg.... It's Awesome. I can spin it around however I want. It works.

In my case....no. it is now dust on the shop floor. it did reinforce the strength of both the wood, and the chemical and physical bond used. took almost an hour to get that handle off clean.

If it makes you feel any better I screwed up everything I tried to do today.

Figuring out what I like in a small/medium companion knife. My grinds are getting a lot better, and my handle shaping has improved as well. Left is in magnacut, other two are cru-wear. Next up is getting a LN2 dewar so I don't have to use dry ice.
Lovin that middle guy.....πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘. Leather??? Birch.πŸ€”

I ruined 2 sheaths of water buffalo a couple days ago. Mispunched holes on both; one was from a bent prong on my diamond chisel punch I didn't see until it was too late and the other was I had the punch mis aligned for 2 batches of 6 holes. Ruined a good bit of other water buffalo (almost a square foot or more!) because it is soooo much denser to laser cut through than regular veg tanned leather is! Also broke my hole punch for chicago screws this week, so I couldn't even do the WB by hand, had to use the laser to do it! Next time, I will do a basic template from wood with the holes laser cut out so I can punch the holes and cut around the template instead. MUCH less smelly!

I always wanted a fallkniven northern lights/stacked leather knife but couldn't justify the cost, so this is my version of that! hand cut the leather rings out of ~4-5oz veg tan with a sharp chisel, ~0.14" cpm cru-wear, flat ground at ~4 degrees, then convexed for the last little bit. Around 63 HRC. Guard and pommel are just brass bar stock, milled with a dremel haha. Cru-wear has got to be the best mid sized knife steel on the planet, I am blown away by it.

The handle is not dyed, but it was initially soaked in some danish oil, then sealed with tung oil and bees wax + a heat gun, and that combo turned it that color.
