What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

I was about to hand sand the handle, but then the skitters started coming into the shop. I forgot how cute they are. So I left off here, and will continue tomorrow.

One EDChef with blue canvas Mytorture and one of two intended Kagistume, this one is a slightly slimmer variant than the original, with approximately 1/4" less blade and handle height. I was supposed to end up with a regular sized version on this run as well, but sadly, it was "lost in the tank" according to the waterjet guys. No biggie, these things happen. I will make another one soon enough. I'll probaby try and line up another couple 15N20 sheets soon, another .06" and something thicker, maybe even .25".

I think I understand. ;)

Can you clean the belts? I've cleaned sandpaper quite often with an air compressor. Ive also used the rubber cleaning sticks in the past.

Does it make a difference by varying what RPM you grind the micarta?

It would if I had a variable speed grinder.

My baby has graduated to Metallica. Sanitarium is now her favorite song. Oh to be 9 again.....

I hope you're keeping her away from Damage Inc. and Leper Messiah.

Out of curiosity, why is Blue difficult to work with?

Very fabricky. But not hard like steel, so it won't break away substrate the way steel does to reveal sharp substrate underneath. Instead it just loads. That's why I torture myself by using worn ceramic belts for the rough shaping. I could keep ordering the open coat belts that are right for the job, but even these get consumed fast by the blue Micarta, and the time it saves me is not really enough to justify buying the belts at this time. If it made a difference in final product, maybe but I would rather spend an extra few minutes on the knife, than the extra cash if time is the only consideration.

Don't have an air compressor. Rubber only goes so far. They are great for G10 on AO belts, but good luck getting that blue off the ceramic with anything short of a chemical deep clean. Which is not worth the time.
