What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

I believe permethrin is sold to treat scabies and lice.

Yes.

It is also recommended as a preventative in tick country. I don't use it and generally get by on a thorough check after wilderness time. Ticks take time to dig into your flesh and transmit disease so this works. The one time it didn't was a time I didn't think I needed to check because I wasn't in the woods. I had been sitting on a stone wall near a bush outside of my local hospital. I picked up a tick just above the belt line on my back where I'd never notice.

I'll tell you this: Lyme was far worse than either time I had COVID. 😮

Many folks have no idea how bad Lyme can be with some very long lasting issues as well. Stay safe.

I did the month of antibiotics. They said I was cured. I was left with intermittent tingling on the left side of my face but it got less severe over time. The doctor said it was nerve damage and that it was fairly common with Stage 2 Lyme. That said, it took three visits to get correctly diagnosed. I developed a secondary bullseye which led to a full exam and discovery of the faded bullseye on my back. That's how we were able to figure out my exposure.

I'm thankful that it wasn't worse. The few weeks of intermittent fever, horrifying headaches, muscle spasms, and profuse sweating in the acute phase were enough to make me forever vigilant and ready to warn others.

We have bug wipes at our work “BUG-X 30”. We have lock out tags that we have to write on with permanent sharpie markers.

When it comes time to remove the writing, alcohol and Clorox wipes don’t even touch it for removal, basically zero removal.

We use the bug wipes and it literally melts off the sharpie, wipes it right off. It’s amazing for that! Kind of scary that’s made to be put on your face and body.

Thanks guys!

Skeeters: I bit the bullet and sprayed my shop clothes. It worked. Before that they were swarming me in the dozens today.

Have you tried a Big Box fan?
I don't like wearing chemicals unless I Have to.
Many years ago we had an outdoor party, and I bought a big barn style box fan.
.....if it Blows all the paper plates and stuff off the tables, I can't imagine little skeeters flying through all that.

Idk what that would do with your dust? Might be better? If blown towards an open door?

I've read complaints that DEET can "melt" Kraton rubbery handles, as found of some Cold Steel and other brands .

IDK , never had the problem myself .

I've ordered some of that stuff that was mentioned here a few days ago, with no deet. The one that the US Army supposedly uses. I think.

I have had really good luck with Thermacell products. Worth a try if nothing else works. I used one of the small personal ones a bunch.

Tried a thermacell last year, and maybe I was using it wrong, but it didn't seem to make any difference. Yet the neighbors up the road used them and said they are the best.

Picardin is supposed to be much safer than DEET and just as effective, but I did not have good luck with it.

ThermaCELL works good over here as long as the wind doesn't blow it away. The ones that screw onto the butane cans work the best from my experience. I have 4 or 5 of the various models.

By the way, this is my favorite part of the ride home, and yesterday was particularly nice. Sure beat the winter bike rides!

Looking back towards the shop. That hill is short but steep. Sometimes I walk it, like on hot days, or I'd just sweat like crazy and then get covered in G10 dust. Not the most pleasant thing in the world.

And this is looking the opposite way, from the same spot.

And looking left and right (you can see the ethanol plant in the second pic)
