What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Some may recall a couple months ago I showed a box of tang housings I ordered cut by Send Cut Send. What I didn’t tell you is they required me to adjust my CAD files because they didn’t want to cut geometry less than a quarter inch. So very minor adjusting on both the tang and the tang housing is required but looks like it will work just fine.

Here you can see a blade inserted into one I adjusted as well as one how it was cut by the company.

Good ol’ reliable pancake. Not the minimalist profile I prefer but almost zero risk of scratches upon completion.

Of course YMMV depending on how you carry it. All my knives get scratched up in use anyway because I vertical carry and get all kinds of shop dust in my sheath.

I agree. Sometimes I will offer the customer a discount if they are okay with scratches and sometimes they are bad enough I can’t bring myself to send it. It doesn’t happen all the time but it’s also frequent enough that every garbage bag I put in the pail ends up with at least a sheath or three worth of material and lost hours in it.

It’s a process….

Don’t worry that dirt wasn’t in there when I glued it up. That came after I test fitted the dagger blank in there to make sure I didn’t clamp the opening too tight for it. I’ll clean that out after the glue cures and before final glue up with the blank inserted.
