What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Call it a day here and do some kettlebells before the skitters appear.

Wow those look great! I suspect that the kitchen knife will also need a sheath like the last one, just in case they become re-united for Xmas or something... 😌

Question - can you/do you ever incorporate this type of cutout into your outdoor/camping/self defense knife handles? I find they sometimes help when choking up in a pincher grip, and they look nice.

If it needs pinch grip, I taper the scales, but not like that.
That was the only example I had on hand at the moment... I find something like that type of relief to be aesthetically pleasing, but not as functional as it looks.

Agreed. It does look nice, but to me it makes it so that you cannot as easily use the knife in pinch grip where you pinch the scales themselves. You are sort of forced to pinch ahead of the scales, but I prefer to have the option to pinch the front of the scales, or ahead of the scales, at my discretion. That being said, I cannot say that I have truly standardized a distinct method of making any given knife yet, as I still find myself experimenting with different approaches to the same element. What I am finding is that there are ultimately many different ways that work well for a given design element.

These are almost ready. Lots of things have gone wrong in the last two days, hence the slow pace… and thunder has been rolling for five minutes straight here as well. Not even one second of no thunder in that time.

David has a very good twist on a chef knife. I am not very good with a knife in the kitchen but used to work long ours in tobacco fields and gardens, also helped butcher animals and the only two knives I had for myself were a paring knife and an old chef knife. Never really needed anything else.

Thanks misters!

Storm was getting heavy there but it seems to be tapering off now that I’m a few minutes away from leaving for the day.

David your finish work has come a long way, the extra effort sure looks fantastic. What’s the blade length on that chef blade, love how you cut back the tip giving the proud owner something that will pierce without any effort.🤔

It’s out the door so I can’t measure it. It is a Jarod Todd design.
