What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

You get over an hour of my ghetto sheath making process. But it's probably going to be that long before the video finishes exporting, and then that all over again to upload it. Yay.

I crashed hard a while after fiddling with the video software. Just started the upload. In the meantime, I’ll be starting two more orders this week of three small knives each and a K-slick. Hopping to get them done before Monday. After that I am free to make whatever I want from my blades in stock while I await other blades back from heat treatment…. Unless anyone wants to keep me booked up! ;)

To that end, here is a little show and tell of some nearly finished blade grinds:

Filets, TeenyChef Wharncliffe, Canadian Belt Knife all in .06” 15N20 at 61 RC, two neckers in .08 LC200N at 58-59 RC. And I still have lots of 8670 tantos and EDC knives and a few 15N20 neck knives left too.

Didn't get very far on any one knife today, but got the preparatory stages in place for seven. I was going to prep slabs of firedoggy for the K-slick as well, but had to do the skeeter skedaddle instead. One got me. But it’s okay because I got him and a dozen others.

All spoken for.

I might have forgotten to mention that since Andy will be heat treating a batch for me soon, I profiled and pin slotted the drops from the previous waterjet frames that he brought back to me and will be shipping them to him tomorrow.

These are from the space between the designs as laid out in cad files. A lot of these designs would have never happened without the constraints of working within a specific shape and size of the steel pieces. And I’m super excited about the possibilities for each one.

I’m reminded of the K-slick by the top one, which is a bit bigger than that model.

The next one is a sort of guardless recurved Tanto or maybe a swayback harpoony wharcliffe is we flip it upside down.

Then we have a subtle subtle recurve with a small thumb ramp.

Partial hidden tang recurved small fighter.

Simple utility or bushcraft knife.

Spyderco Stretch looking little fella.

Simple hawkbill.

Hawkbill with a small thumb ramp that looks kind like a hummingbird?

Mini cleaver. Stupidest invention ever but why not….

And in that spirit the top left, sure why not an axe that fits in the palm of your hand.

Didn’t make it to the shop today. After running errands in town I got home to find home internet down and have been dealing with multiple calls to tech support since. Hoping to hear back about my work order and hopefully be up and running again asap. Thankfully I sent the CAD files for the swizzle sticks to HAI before I left.

Home internet was restored just a few minutes ago by Duane from Clear Line of Site. He did a great job, fixed some mistakes the previous contract installer made (the ground was not grounded, the drip loop was defective), and tweaked the new radio he installed (the previous one, though brand new, had fried in yesterday's thunderstorm, he concluded) to get me a bit more speed than I had before. Now I can go to the shop.
