What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Speaking of: Dear Murphjd25 Murphjd25 I know we didn’t talk about this but I texted your knife to REK Knives REK Knives and he said “you should do a hollow along the length of the handle for ergos and grip” and at first I resisted because I tried it before and it was not only a pain but came out really ugly, but that was years ago and I am much better at freehanding on my dremel now, so:

And let me tell you he is right the handling just went from decent to great.

Thank you Josh for a great suggestion and I expect to use it more often in the future.

Great line, I couldn't do that with a dremel that's for sure!!!

But Why? What does it do, what does it feel like?
I've never explored the ground, roughed out markings and grooves that are popular now.....I think you and I had a conversation a couple years ago, and we exchanged pictures we found about interesting patterns..... I imagine the patterns Trick our brains, and our hands naturally compensate.

Your normal grind patterns that you do (and are good at) make sense to me, id like to have confidence some day to explore more....... But, the single grooved line is a new one.
I'm going to think about how that FEELS all night....haha. :)

My imagination has been running riot with this too.

David, do you think this is a better grip than what's on, say the sumo jitsu you did for me last year?

Not better just different and grabs your hand in a different way. With this your fingertips sink into the groove and it also facilitates transitioning from forward to reverse grip and a pinch point for indexing rotation. Additionally when I make the sheath for this I can mold the handle to pinch that groove for added retention which may prove a game changer on EDChefs and the like.

That looks great! I’ll take it 😃 (J/K I know it’s sold)

After these I want to make something on the bigger side, with Micarta, handle groove, and texture. Thinking a Midnighter Fighter with a chisel ground serrated blade and sharpened swedge. Or the 15N20 EDChef XL I have here, also with Micarta and a handle groove. But maybe another large EDC Wharncliffe. Or maybe start all three....

Anyway look at me putting the sled before the dogs.
