What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Framed tang but the frame is too thick oh no!

David Mary, human surface grinder back at it again….

IMG_3034.jpeg

Still too thick.

Still too thick.

A little too thick.

Perfect with very small amount of clearance for the volume of Gorilla glue white which will expand to fill the cavity.

IMG_3041.jpeg

No light passes through, indicating perfect surface mating.

Nice fit from this angle too.

Brought to you by American made pyroceram platen secured with gorilla tape to a $300 Chinese made grinder purchased from Grainger, running American made AO belts, and the generosity of He who distributed talents and saw fit to grant me some modest share thereof.

Swan, or smatchet with a … nose? in any case, no longer ugly duckling, I think.

Lots of leverage options in that long handle; looks like it accommodates shorter stroke chopping, snappier cuts/strikes, and harder from the elbow/shoulder power swings.

I've not been attentive enough to the build pics, but what's the steel stock thickness, David?

Agreed!

The dirk is 1/4” and the other two are 1/8” 8670. Or maybe the fighter is a touch thicker I can’t remember at the moment.

I used to practice the Wim Hof method, or parts of it anyway. Never bought into his New Agey stuff but the cold showers and deep breathing worked wonders. I became quite resilient to the cold. I’ve lost a bit of that since, but I’ll practice the contrast showers again at least as well as spend some time outside in the cold in shorts and T-shirt, like for kettlebell training or hill running.

See, I do the opposite. I like to eat steak with scotch bonnets outside in 100+ heat, or a big bowl of pho with a handful of Thai chiles. Now it's nearing 33 degrees outside and I can't leave the hearth. We're slated for a wet, harsh winter and I'm apprehensive.

All Saint's Day sort of sneaked up on me this year, which I believe I'm supposed to observe as a day of rest, worship and abstinence from servile works. So I will be back in the shop tomorrow.
