What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

It was a shoulder puncher.
too much rifle for me down here. .308 most powerful that i own. handles everything floridas got and then some. here getting a clear shot hunting more than 100 yards is not an easy task. truth be a 30-30 handles all down here too. I stopped hunting long ago though.....so really don't need anything more than .22lr for plinking.....

So many people here have stuff like 7mm magnum or other such cartridges that I just don't get it.
It just depends on the region and the size of the animals. Before shoulder issues my .338 win mag was my go too. The bear and moose up here can get a little dangerous and you never know if your shot is 50 or 500 yards.

Distance can also play a role here. I haven't gone hunting in years but my last caribou was taken at over 400 yards. Some of the mountain sheep / goat guys can double that distance. Im to out of practice and I shake to much these days but there was a time I was proficient (confident shooting an animal) out to 600 yards

I was referring to living in the South. Even in a fire break the best you would be getting is a few hundred yards. Now switch this up to Midwest to Western states then I completely get it. But hunting from a tree stand with a .300 Win Mag just sounds ridiculous to me but I've seen it done.

just need enough caliber and power to humanely put down an animal. florida is unique in its thick jungle and lack of long clear shot locations. also it's smaller animals. don't need a lot here to accomplish that job. out west....would need longer flatter harder hitting for those long shots.

sorry for me causing a off-topic , David......

Another Prevex for a gentleman who gave creative license.

So let’s freehand taper the tang for an amazing balance of strength, speed, and performance.

This is the thinnest I’ve gone yet on a tapered tang. It is more like 3/32ā€ at the butt where my thinnest before was probably around 1/8ā€. I’m getting better at these.
