What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

David! What are the two big curved blades? Are they spoken for?

Those are also Accipiter prototypes, so these are spoken for, but I’m hoping to have David make more if there’s interest. :)

David has graciously offered to let me start a thread for my new brand in this sub-forum, and I’ll have something up tomorrow.

Here’s a picture of the knife that inspired the big ones pictured.

This is the second knife that I designed/made for a good friend years ago. The “Northern Goshawk”, below, is substantially longer but in thinner stock.

Slight correction. A thread to discuss the ideas and philosophy behind your designs. To avoid either of us getting in trouble, you should have the dealer membership before there are discussion relating to sales or marketing, and discussing the launch of a new brand sounds like marketing. But I think you are probably fine to talk about the designs and the idea behind them, but just to make sure we are on the right side of the law here, I am tagging knarfeng knarfeng in case we need further correction.

No problem!
I’ll wait to see if there are any further instructions before I get ahead of myself. :)

I'm not exactly certain of the details of what you are doing, but
>If you are advertising or selling items you made yourself, you need a a knife maker membership.
>If you buy things from other makers specifically to sell them, then you need a dealer membership.

My own unofficial opinion is that if you design a knife and David makes it for you specifically so you can sell it, I think you would require a knife maker membership; but we'd need to confirm that with Spark, because that specific scenario is not covered in the rules.

I would also be interested if there is any change to this. 😊

Lucky Dog Knife Co Lucky Dog Knife Co on the river dogs what was the intended purpose for the jimping near the tip as well as on the back? Im not knocking it at all and actually like it but was curious on your thoughts. I do a lot of single finger cuts and dont mind that extra purpose on a shorter blade.

Ahh i see….Ranch dog, spey style blade, jimping up high, if youve cut a nut or two you may see a connection and use there haha. 😁

Lets hear what the expert says

Coarse scratches on the handles removed with 150 grit belts, glue squeeze out cut off (there is another step for this during hand sanding as well) and they are now ready for the additional ergonomic treatment with the dremel above and beyond what I’ve observed to be “industry standard”, i.e. sharp edges and corners at the front of the scales. Lots of knives seem to get away with it but I can’t stand it. So you don’t have to either. Sanding drums for that.

Also with the dremel will be to slightly deepen the grooves between jimping on the 15N20 ones because the jimping was laser cut on this after plasma cutting (plasma is too wide a kerf to do jimping according to my specs). The laser cut was not quite to my satisfaction for what the end result will be. Also clean up the sharpening choils. Diamond bits of various sizes for that.

This is how the litter looks now as I head home for the evening.
