What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Still working away on these. It was while hand sanding the red one when it occurred to me I might have misread your intentions Timmy. I apologize.

Still some spots to get. That's enough for tonight though.

I hear fireworks in the distance even now but I'm in the shop making cutting tools for men. Would you know I never understood the term "job satisfaction" for more than three decades of my life.

Been asked to make something little different. Based on a design the customer sent me. Trying to optimize strength and lightness without an engineering background. .140" MagnaCut. I think this is the version. My guesstimates at this type of balance seems to be improving and I'm quite confident in this design now.

I'm gonna ask some folks just in case...

what program is that and how long did it take you to become proficient?

I took AutoCAD classes 20 years ago in high school. that looks similar.

It is Autodesk Fusion 360. When I first started contracting JTknives JTknives to plasma cut and heat treat blades for me, he made my life a lot easier by creating a quite involved tutorial on exactly how to do it. As time when on and my CAD files had to be used on other machines like waterjet and laser, I had to learn a few new things, but thankfully Mark and Steve Leading Edge Fab Leading Edge Fab , despite being super busy, are very knowledgable and have been kind enough to answer some technical questions for me whenever I have asked during orders I placed with them.

So today was computer work in the morning, and the sensible thing to do in the shop after seemed to me to be finishing those knives I already started before the belts arrived in the afternoon and evening, so that is done. And I should have been photographing and sending communications for these knives, but I got myself sidetracked on the semi-secret M____C__ run I'm working on setting up. No room for more knives on the sheet. You see, a few folk reached out to me when I bought that small sheet I announced a little while back, but it was too small for me to accomodate everyone, and I ended up just sticking it on a shelf and doing nothing with it. So those folks are on this new run, as well as a few of my ideas that I really want to try out - or others have mentioned to me. There just may be a couple of EDChef XLs, and some repeats of old designs as well as new ideas as mentioned.

And aside from that, I have my second chess lesson with Kestony tomorrow at noon and then I'm going to grind the afternoon/evening away like those belts are free! Ulu. Chef. Carver. Boning knife. Paring knife. Gonna be a blast!

Anyway, I have some microbevels to tend to and photos to take.

Oh yeah and I'm gonna cut that sheet into little rectangles with pin holes and skeltonization and send them to Jarod with the knives Mark and Steve are cutting for me. I'll be able to make a few neckers out of that, I think.
