What's happening in the David Mary Custom shop?

Thank you guys. Should be a breeze to finish them up Monday, and get everything maker's marked, cleaned up and sharpened. Four hours, if I'm lazy about it. Which is good, because now I have to call PayPal in the morning. I'll make a proper announcement next week, but for now I will say that a strong repeat customer has just invested heavily in helping me set up a new MagnaCut run. But PayPal is making me verify my identity before I can process any more transactions. Probably triggered by the customer's deposit being the largest lump sum amount yet to be received onto my PayPal account. Problem is I entered the information they asked for and it said some of it was wrong, and I only had one more try! So that Monday morning priority is call PayPal. Get that out of the way in a quick five minute call (😬), get Mark and Steve and Jarod paid up for their part in the run, order some red Suretouch, chain ring bolts and black micarta, then off to the shop to get these ten knives above done. Hopefully that's how it will work out.

Have a blessed Sunday.

I forgot about labor day.... I just called PayPal and they say regular business hours are between 6 am and 6 pm Pacific Time, so I have another hour to wait yet. Assuming they are open today.

Contacted PayPal and the word is that I have an account limitation, triggered by the fact that this is the largest payment yet received to my account. The customer advised me that the same happened to him when he made the payment. He had to send updated documents, and then everything was cleared and the payment came through, which then triggered my need to also update docs. I have done so, and the lady at PayPal advised me that another department will review the files I uploaded today, and that she believes I will receive an email from them in two business days to notify me that the account limitation will be lifted and I can proceed to use the account as normal. So now, time to finish the job I was working on Saturday. It will be a literal labor day for me. :)

Contacted PayPal , and they helped me resolve the aforementioned account issue, so that I can use my account as normal. I finally did a GB&U on PayPal, given this most recent positive customer service interaction. All my interactions with PayPal have ended on a positive, and usually quite a bit more promptly than one might expect, given the malaise people often seem to express about PayPal.

I wanted some practice blanking by hand, so I did this instead of the original plan of sending rectangles. I'll ship these to Jarod later today. No designs in mind, just by feel of what should come off and where. A little rough around the edges under the hood on a couple but they'll have scales to cover it.

I'm trying to improve the quality of my hand filed jimping. The file is something like .5" wide, and in the past I have tried to make sections of jimping longer than that by either doing paralell files passes, or overlapping, but sometimes ended up with snaggletooth jimping. So I here are my practice results.

My first hand filed jimping in a while. I played it super conservative and left a gap between the two file grooves.

The second one: I felt more confident to go for it.

I did okay.

Then I wondered about doing a hump with jimping, not like spyderco but more subtle for a locked in saber grip that can deliver a forceful thrust.

And I tried to do two of them, and ended up with a snaggletooth after all.

But I still like each knife, and have great expectations for what I can do with them.

I also got started on the next three ROFR knives on the list, but it looks like I forgot to photograph them. I have scales curing overnight on the utility knife, and my last ring wharncliffe and a Prevail are ground and ready to be handled.

did some catch up reading and lookin at pics. great stuff ya cranked out, David.

I've come to love that kitchen set carver knife ya make, I think ya call it a carver? what a great lookin knife. think it would be a great general field use knife......besides a kitchen carver. one of these days I'm gonna get one from ya......if I can get a sheath with it even better.......

Going to move my 1/4" Prevail with slim Micarta scales as an R&D knife. It iwas hardened to 60-61 RC. I carried it every day since I made it. Used it quite a bit, and it is sharp and a beast. I'll post it in the exchange Monday, unless anyone watching this thread wants to grab it first. I assure you that the price if you grab it before I post it will be at least $15 less than what I'll list if for, since you'd be saving me some time making a post, and also in appreciation for following my humble work. Email, PM or text me and I will answer any questions you may have. But I'll be at the shop this evening finishing up those three knives I have been puttering away on, so may be slow in responding. I will give priority to an "I'll take it" post in this thread. Note the pic does not show the blade scratches. It is definitely scratched from sheath debris, though clean up and a new sheath are options, which will cost a bit more, and bring it to the same price as the original run. But if you want an extremely tough beater/user, like the Prevail design and don't mind scratches, you'll probably not run into a deal like this again, as I may never make this model in 1/4" again (unless there is a lot of interest).

For the curious: I will be replacing it as my EDC with the next R&D project, a Prevail Wharncliffe in .093" AEB-L at 62 RC.

These are ready for handles, all except the chef which an unfortunate grinding mistake has necessitated a redesign of on the fly. It just might finally be time for me to have my own AEB-L kitchen knife.
