What's in the name Jeep? (And the Becker lovers who love them.)

Just found this thread! Here is my 85 CJ7

And then we have my 1970 Jeepster Commando with the original and great running 225 dauntless v6, this one is my baby, she is currently under the knife for while as the clutch went out.

Yes I am hauling my fridge in it in this picture, haha. Who needs a truck?

And finally, my girlfriends 87 YJ we just bought

That 1970 Jeepster commando was my first car, I have had many offers on it and even when I was in bad times I never sold it. [emoji51]

Bladite couldn't handle my signature. So here we are.

Forgive me. I feel it again... the call from light. Murphnuge senses it. I've been browsing JK's on Autotrader. Show me again, the power of the darkness, and I'll let nothing stand in our way.

I need to get my old black YJ back up here from my parent's place..... soon.

Say 1,941 Hail Willys and ye shall be forgiven.

The wife and I took my YJ out for a spin today. Couldn't ask for better weather:

I actually came close to buying a Jeep once. Bought my 2008 Dodge Power Wagon instead. Ordered it actually. I love it. I still would like a jeep though. I think it would have to be a Rubicon though, as I am spoiled with front & rear lockers & elec dis connecting swaybar, the winch (I know Rubicons don't come stock with one like the PW does) & the uber low gearing of my manual shift G-56 6-speed. Even lower than a manual shift Rubicon w/it's 4.0:1 low range t-case. Jeep Rubi is 73.1:1 crawl ratio, PW is 78.016:1 even with it's 2.72: low range. 1st gear is 6.29. Won't pass a gas station but it pulls like nobody's business & is an off-road beast but when she's stuck, most trucks can't get her out. But Jeeps are so much easier to modify than my truck. You can go sooo many different directions with all the bolt on stuff avail for them. Wayyy cool.

Gonna get some square lights for mine too. Makes more sense than the round ones, since the headlights are square.

Nothing wrong with mixing it up...

She's lookin great Dubs!

I guess there's a reason they say just empty every pocket...
Not like a boat where ya break out another thousand to keep it going, but the list...it goes on forever!

Fortunately I've been able to keep it reeled in a bit for now, I guess. I mean Becker's have taken place of some accessories but they kinda become accessories themselves, right?

The first major mod I'm looking at is a small lift, then 33s and rims. But damn...looking at a couple grand that's not there lol.

Nothing wrong with mixing it up at all. Mine came with round KC lights, and I think they look good where they're placed on the bumper.

I hear ya about all the items available for Jeeps. It's just crazy. I'm pretty satisfied with mine the way it is....for now, haha. The first thing I need to do is replace the leaf springs. Look at the bottom photo I posted above, and you can see how bad they've flattened out. I ordered a front license plate bracket for a tube bumper, but had to send it back, as it was made for 3" tube bumpers, and mine are 2". Hard to believe they don't make them for 2" bumpers, but I did find some made for old hot rods that will work. I have them ordered.

Yes...I was told Jeep is an acronym for, "Just Empty Every Pocket"

And I pretty much have spent a lot of money with my wife's factory ordered 1997 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 with 180,000 miles on it that she stop driving and passed down to me about 175,000 miles ago! LOL

And now, I won't give it up - it never gets into the rotation or, time to get rid of it, discussion. At this point I would be happy to just park it down on the lower property for posterity etc...

I always thought the Jeep name stood for:
Just
Empty
Every
Pocket

Here's my 60th Anniversary Bullet, ordered her from the factory 15 years ago, still my daily driver @ 125,000mi:

The stock suspension on my DJ5 was soft and cushy riding on 14" tires, not what I wanted to keep. I went to a spring shop eventually. Early on, I had my Chevy's original leaf springs "re-arched". But they sag again, so what the spring shop did for the Jeep was to add leaves to get the height I needed for 15's. I did the rear leaves first to get the drive line vibes mellowed out, then I had them address the front to get the ride height I wanted. This mimics a stock Wrangler, or CJ in height, but the Post Office ordered them to suit their needs, pretty low and soft.

That would be good time to consider lift springs and different shackles. It should ride a bit better and last a but linger than stock springs on lift shackles.

I have no room to talk. I still need to replace mine. All it takes is time and money, right?

That's what I'm going to do, get a lift kit for it. It would sit a little higher with just stock springs, but I think a lift is in order. It will beat you to death on a bumpy road, the way they're flattened out. Yep, time and money...

If you're Soob isn't this...

...then there's no comparison.

I've had 2 Subarus and loved them dearly. Over 200k on each and was heart broken when they finally bit it.
I'll never go back. My TJ is the last vehicle I buy for myself. Everything can be replaced.

I will be on the look out for a Soob for my daughter in a couple of years, they're awesome to drive and fun for light off road, but even heavy mods don't come close to a stock Wrangler.

Check em out for some killer off-road Soob builds. Tons of pics, guides, and info. It's like our place here for Subaru fans.

Warrior's YJ makes me want to tear down my old YJ and get it back in good shape. That dark grey is almost exactly what I pictured mine in after its restoration.
